View Full Version : Best DVD software player for telecined DVDs?

I have many DVDs which are telecined from 24fps to 29,97fps.
I'm using PowerDVD XP, which can't handle such DVDs well (Bob = jerky motion / Weave = interlacing artefacts)
Is there any other player that gives better results, or does IVTC on the fly?

@DJ Bobo,
Try WinDVD 4.0 from www.intervideo.com
I think it's the best DVD player for the Audio and Video quality.
I still don't know why people still using the PowerDVD :)
Bet me, I think you will uninstall the PowerDVD once you see
the DVD with the WinDVD. ;)

Maybe this DVD is not properly encoded. Using WinDVD2000, when an NTSC DVD is properly "telecined", choosing weave or bob has no effect on the playback, that is 24 fps progressive whatever setting is used.
Set the playback to weave, and watch a panning scene advancing frame by frame. You must see 3 interlaced frames alterning with 2 progressive ones (or maybe the opposite, I can't check right now). Check for 20 frames at least.
If it's not the case, no need to go further, no progressive playback will be possible. The case is not uncommon.

Well, they're properly encoded... for TV, not for a PC monitor! ;)
The DVDs I'm talking about are Anime DVDs, which were telecined before encoding and then encoded 100% interlaced. It is proper telecining: 3 progressive + 2 interlaced frames pattern.

I downloaded WinDVD4 and tried it. It has that advanced deinterlacing option, which delivers better video quality than PowerDVD, but it doesn't help motion, as it only blends the fields together. No IVTC is done :(
Any other suggestion? or is it as Pio2001 said: "no need to go further, no progressive playback will be possible"?
