I want to do this:
I placed a video clip#1 (122 min) on the timeline. Now I tried to place another video clip#2 (2 min) to to the left part of the timeline and replacing the first clip by the length of clip#2.
I know that you can slide the left side of clip#1 to the right thus assigning an offset to it. Then clip#2 could be inserted.
The problem is that shifting the starting point is not very precisly. Does anybody know a way to set this offset manually (as an arbitrary figure)?
Or maybe another way to do this? (no, I don't have Premiere...)

Hi,

basically you have a couple of options:

- the best (my personal opinion) is really to drag the bracket to the point where you want to start clip2 (zoom down to frame, then it gets pretty accurate)
- you could set chapters as well (one at the end of clip1 and one at the desired clip2 start point) and then jump with clip1 chapter End Action to clip2 desired start point, BUT this leaves the video content in you project and requires a manual audio resynching
- with this chapter points you can as well Insert Video Segment (Video Track rightclick)
- or you place your clips on different video tracks and do an 'Angle' Switch at the end of clip1 BUT here you leave the full video content in your project as well
- and so on

I found it helpful to set the Play Cursor to the exact position for a cut and then drag the bracket. I do a first rough cut first and then zoom down to Frame view and cut to the exact point.

Thanks a lot. I went for option #1 (didn't use the zoom function yet...) and it worked just fine...
