I'm planning a program that would automate the entire process of reauthoring a DVD as described in Doom9's guide. I'd like to gauge interest in this program to decide whether or not to package it up in a user-friendly format and release at the end. It would do everything for you, and in the background too. You'll be able to use your computer for other things, but of course parts like encoding are pretty CPU-intensive. You'd still be able to pick various options about the overall process. What do you think?

Of course this would be great !
But I think as Doom9 that will be quite a huge work to think about every possible architecture of DVD...
I believe for such a project you need to reduce first to simple DVDs like, One VTS, ONE Title, no extra , then when working two VTS, one title each, the movie and an extra and so on..

When your tool can do Matrix, you are just a GOD !

Anyway, on the same subject, I would be quite happy to have a tool to automatically générate the ecl file of CCE + the corresponding AVS for the first pass, directly from the VOB.
As of course direct sst file generation for scenarist...

I am not at all a coder, so can only rely on others and will never complain if nobody do it, and will ever thanks people like authors of IfoEdit, avisynth, chapterXtractor, SubRip, DVD2avi ...etc. for their tools , their work and for sharing.

Hi...I suggest take a small step by allowing the DVD2SVCD proggie to become a project sequencer as well....
I posted a request for this in the DVD2SVCD forum ...but I will say that by simply letting DVD2SVCD do automatic sequenceed recovery of interuppted projects...those projects can be completely sequnced into DVD authoring ready elemetary streams....

This saves much of the time lost due to having to manually start each encoding.

Well, I've got my copy right next to me just waiting. I plan to base the automation around a much simpler DVD and build out from there.

We each eagerly await the results of your efforts.

:) It certainly is a worthy task!

I would like to vote yes as I am a lazy old dog. It is a mamouth task and I wish you all the best as I can see you will soon be having sleepless nights. Good luck & I await your results with eagerness.
Happy Coding :D :) :D :)

Well, just thought I'd let know what's going on. Most of the core "engine" is done, so now I can talk to other programs. I can select things, click buttons, enter text, and so on (all automatically). Now I need to basically script the programs to do what I want. That's the major amount of work involved, but it shouldn't be too complicated. I'm hoping to have something released before the end of August. Oh, and (optionally) all the programs doing the work can be completely hidden so you don't even know they are running at all! :D (Unless you look in the Task Manager of course.)

so your using SendKeys and existing programs?

Enf...

Well, SendKeys is just one of them, but, yes, it's just lots of API commands translated into easy to use objects for each program. I didn't see any other way to do it, considering that many of the programs don't have any command-line support or anything like that.

No.

No i would not like a program like this. I like the extra work. I like the extra hassle, and hair pulling that comes with re-authoring a DVD, and taking it all apart, and putting it back together, and sometimes miraculously getting it right. I like the added tension and stress of having to do the difficult DVDs like matrix. No to mention, i love the added difficulty of trying to figure out which streams to pick apart, so please lets just keep it this way.

Im kidding, if you invent a program like this then people will lining up for miles to blow you.

Haha, funny post... :) It's also interesting that you brought this thread back to the top the same day a made a new one! ;) Strange... Oh well, I'm glad you like the idea!

oh i forgot to ask-

if you are taking requests for features, to put into this program, this is my request.

Some kind of calculator that can determine the exact size of the movie file after it is ripped, AND reprocessed with IfoEdit. I hate ripping a movie, then processing it, and then finding out that it turns out to be small enough to put on one disc and i have to do it all over again. =)

Is this featyre even possible?

Well, it could be possible. Right now I'm not too sure... When you recompress the video with CCE, you wouldn't really know how large it would end up being until that step. I'm not working on new features at the moment, but the suggestions are certainly welcome. If you'd like to help me beta test this program, there's a new thread for that purpose.
