Hi,
when i watch a french movie on my home dvd player and when a german soldier speak, automatically, subtitles appear to translate in french.
It seems the dvd player know when the language spoken switch and so put subtiles.
When i use vobsub, i only want to get sub when there is a foreign language spoken but i don't know how to do. Is this that you call forced subtitles ?
Any advise please.

First method: you delete the lines that are not needed in the idx file manually
Second method: in such a case as yours, I think there is 2 or more subtitles which you can choose from, choose the one where there is only the parts you're talking about.

Third Method: Try to check "Show only forced subtitles" or so in DVobSub config menu.

Ok thanks i've understand it's forced Subtitles.
DVobSub works but i prefer to get text files and DVobsub does not provide a such format.
SubRip does not provide "only forced subtitles option". So does someone know which tool to use to get text (or microDVD) files with only forces subtiles ?

I say it for the second time: why don't you edit the files manually by deleting all lines that you don't need, this won't even take 5 minutes! -.-

sorry but i can't because i don't know which of them i have to do :
Here the beginning of the file created by vobsub :
# VobSub index file, v7 (do not modify this line!)
#
# To repair desyncronization, you can insert gaps this way:
# (it usually happens after vob id changes)
#
# delay: [sign]hh:mm:ss:ms
#
# Where:
# [sign]: +, - (optional)
# hh: hours (0 <= hh)
# mm/ss: minutes/seconds (0 <= mm/ss <= 59)
# ms: milliseconds (0 <= ms <= 999)
#
# Note: You can't position a sub before the previous with a negative value.
#
# You can also modify timestamps or delete a few subs you don't like.
# Just make sure they stay in increasing order.
# Settings
# Original frame size
size: 720x576

If within VobSub forced subtitles doesn't work, remove all timestamps that are not needed (check with the video to know when the needed subtitles are displayed), it's even written there "# You can also modify timestamps or delete a few subs you don't like.
# Just make sure they stay in increasing order."
For SRT, just rip them as you always do, open the SRT file and delete all lines that are not needed.

That can work but too much work at my opinion to identify all the subs to keep or to remove in a movie.
Rem :VosSub works to keep only forced sub but i have to rip ALL the subs and only DirectVbsub filters to display ONLY forced subtiles but i'd prefer to get a txt version of ONLY forced subtiles because graphicals sub issued by DirectVobsub consumes too much cpu on my computer and slow down the sound. With only text display in powerdivx, the forced subs in a txt format should only be a couples of bytes instead of 5MB for all the subs.
Does someone know of forced subtitles are just a flag in the sub stream or are another "hidden" stream in the vobs ?
thanks
