i have captured and encoded 10 lots of 50 minutes vidoes off my Camera and into DivX5 and SV-CD.

now i think i may need a set done in V-CD

not wanting to re-capture 500 minutes of film, what do you all thinking about using the existing DivX or SV-CD encoded video to make the V-CD rather then raw footage ??

how much will the quality suffer?
and
From which format am i best to encode V-CD from? (DivX or SV-CD)

i am thinking DivX...

thanx!

VCD uses ONLY mpeg1 compression. SVCD uses ONLY mpeg2 compression. divx is based on mpeg4.

it's NOT possible to use divx on VCD or SVCD.

to make VCD or SVCD you can use tmpegenc (you can get it from the download page).

the only reason to use vcd or svcd if if you want your file to be playable on a stand alone machine (i.e. a dvd player). svcd usually have a better quality (especially for 50 mins clip).

whenever you RE-ENCODE, quality WILL suffer, but you'll have to make your own tests to see if the result is acceptable in YOUR eyes.

cheers and good luck

If your DivX looks better, encode from DivX; if your SVCD looks better, encode from the SVCD; it's as simple as that ;)
