Anyone ever see this problem? Its really starting to get annoying. For the last 25 or so movies I did there is very fast lines that show up on the screen horizontally in between scenes on each movie. Its really getting annoying. Im encoding with 4 vbr with temp smooth on, 224 audio. If you need any other info please ask! Im using 1.09 Build 2 of dvd2svcd.

Well,
if you would be a little more precise, we perhaps could have helped with the first reply. ;)
Is this movie (a series?) interlaced, PAL, NTSC, badly converted from PAL to NTSC, ... ?

@hardware You are not using the latest version of dvd2svcd. Update to the latest version found on this site.

Off hand i dont know why it's happening. Have you tried to remove cce and dvd2svcd and then reinstall them? Also not sure if your using bitrate viewer or not, but i would say if not go download it and use that before encoding movies to make sure your field order and other settings are correct..

@hardware
Are you seeing this on a standalone DVD player or on the PC using either Win DVD or Power DVD?
If standalone, which one is it?
Try to play the original CCE encoded .mpv file and and see if you get the lines. Also check out the pulldown version and finally the BBMpeg files. Note though, don't use MS Media Player for this.
The idea is to isolate to the source of the problem, if there is one.
good luck

Hardware,
In the frameserver option where it says force film, on, off, auto, ivtc, what option do you have selected?
If you have on, you might try auto or ivtc. Sounds like your source is not entirely progressive.
I've ran into some movies like that lately. Most of the movie will encode ok, but in various parts, there will be combing effects with force film on. Selecting IVTC takes care of this

@hardware:
Please try to set the "Field order" in "Encoder" tab to "Bottom field first (field B)" instead of "Automatic" and try to encode again (or a little chapter first) - as this option might fail on certain movies but can't say for sure if this will cure your problem.
My parents-in-law own a 100Hz 16:9 TV and with some movies one can see very fine dark-gray lines during fast movement scenes especially when they are also very dark and red.
The exact same SVCD with the exact same DVD player plays perfectly on my TV which is only a 50Hz one.
Hope this helps,
Gerti

I have had the same problem and have seen a number of SVCD posts with this problem. These lines show up during scene changes, occurs randomly and only lasts for a second. Check your .VOB files before you do anything with DVD2SVCD. I found these discrepancies within the ripped .VOB files and no amount of encoding tweaking was going to fix when the source is jacked. Last three movies I converted did not have this problem but I would be interested in additional opinions on this problem and ripping.
Thanks…..
