You got to be kidding.... Just search on it. I found 66 threads on this using the words compress and check.

yea. . most of em are shit. anyway, thanks for the help and if its over 80% i should just reduce bitrate?

I wasn't trying to be mean or disrespectful - just wanted to be sure you had looked.

If you are getting over 80% don't decrease the bitrate - increase the resolution. Run another check and see if you can get it between 65 and 75% (usually does pretty good).

so i guess my real question is if i get crap % like 30 i should decrease the resolution till i get up to like 60%?

Either that or lower the Audio Quality, or start slapping on the smoothers or all 3. There is such a thing as a movie that won't look good on 1 CD no matter what you do.

@ilitherian,

You could find a nice explaination from the GKnot Help.
Just click the Help tab from from your GKnot program.

Here are my personal prefs

I use 128kb audio and use the highest resolution that I can to stay between 60 and 75%. If I find that I can't get above at least 512 x xxx in res then I change to 2 cds. I avoid filters such as smoothers and simply opt for that 2nd cd. Or I will use 2 cds if I REALLY like the title. Most of the time you can get around 100 mins or so on 1cd.

If I happen to come upon one of those rare movies that I max out the resolution (size indicators turn red) then I will up the audio bitrate as high as I can to still fit on one cd. This is a very rare instance.

I use divx 5.02 with b-frame on. This is the only extra from the 5.02 tools that I enable. I leave gmc, quarter pix, and psychovisuals turned off. (They work sometimes - sometimes not). I just tend to avoid them.

This is just my way of doing things. Some ppl use 2 cds all the time, some only use 1 cd no matter what. Its your personal pref.
