Is there any difference between Celtic's build and Gabest's?
The difference in filesize is quite big, and none of them use a EXE-compressor.

I like the new "Regain volume" feature in the audio switcher. However, i found that it goes back to normal volume too early and too abrupt. Like, when there's a loud noise, the volume goes down, and after a few seconds, it goes back up to normal, and you can clearly hear the change.
It would be much better if the volume would increase only slowly, over a time of 1 minute or whatever, so you don't actually notice it.

does anyone have problems seeking or skipping ahead with WMV files? I have ffdshow installed (feb 26 2006 build) with WMV1/7 and WMV2/8 disabled. In the Options -> Tweaks section of MPC I have "use the WM ASF reader" disabled. I have tried to reindex some WMV files with Media Player File Editor and that makes them seek perfectly in WMP 9 or 10, but playback with MPC 6.4.9.0 is still iffy. I'd appreciate any help you guys could provide. Thanks!

I uninstalled corevorbis, as I wanted to check that MPC (version 6490 from gabest) would decode ogg vorbis files - both standalone .ogg and in matroska files .mkv.
It won't play them and gives me this error (as below).
In Internal Filters, Ogg is unchecked. If I check it I Get the same identical error as below.
Any ideas? I will reinstall corevorbis but it would be good if Media Player Classic would simply work with ogg without needing a third-party filter.

It does work with ogg, it just doesn't work with vorbis. You need ffdshow (or corevorbis or oggds) enabled for that, as with most other codecs.

It does work with ogg--if and only if what's inside is Vorbis.
MPC's internal filters
(1) can split Vorbis in OggFile, but cannot decode Vorbis.
(2) can not split Theora in OggFile.

Precisely what I meant to say. It cannot internally decode Vorbis (audio). It would be great if it could do this as nothing extra would be needed to decode Vorbis (audio) besides MPC itself.

Well, MPC does include decoders for most other audio formats, so it's not a bad idea. Kind of odd that it only decodes dirac and mpeg1/2 video natively though. (Real doesn't really count.)

..MPC will be able to decode vorbis audio natively, that would be great, thanks !

I don't know about some of you guys but I think this Media Player Classic thread (114 pages) along with this one (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=101835) has grown too big to maintain its effectiveness.
Given the user differences between versions 6.4.8.x and 6.4.9.x, perhaps that would provide a logical cut-off point :)
Cheers

Hah I totally agree. Maybe it's time to start a new thread.
Liisachan

The problem is not just that this thread is too long, but
there are 2 threads and they are randomly used for similar topics. i.e this one and the new one (6.4.8.7+), http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=101835
I guess we can make a clean new one thread for MPC, when 6.4.9.1 is out
Before that, we may have to try not to use this thread but
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=101835
...
on the other hand, a long thread is not totally bad; it has its forte now that we have a "thread search" tool. Too many short threads about MPC would be confusing too.

Perhaps what's needed is a split into bug reports, feature requests, builds, help, and general discussion, ala megui. Combine as necessary. (The first three and last two together makes sense, if you want to keep it down to two.)
Megui's system is slick because an updated list of bugs and features are kept at the beginning of their threads as reference, but I guess that's meant to be on the sf tracker since this isn't the "official" site.

Maybe it's better even to merge this one and 101835 into one? Cause now they are pretty much interchangable, newbies post about the problems they discover in the thread they find first :)

Following along the lines of foxys suggestions, how about having an: -
"Media Player Classic - Official Gabest Releases" thread.....
Where newbies and people like me (who forget things) have a place to look if they want to find information about MPC's user settings, internal filters, interactivity with external filters and latest official builds.
And a separate: -
"Media Player Classic - Beta Build Releases" thread....
Where we can discuss Celtic_Druids (and others) newest compiles, feature requests, broken things etc.
At least this way Gabest would know which thread to look at....
Cheers

Well a thread discussing svn builds is about current bugs, the "Official Release" thread could contain issues that have already been fixed or feature requests for stuff that has already been added. So you mean that Gabest could ignore the "Official Gabest Releases" thread?

So you mean that Gabest could ignore the "Official Gabest Releases" thread?Sorry I should have been clearer...
Of course he would still need to refer to both threads but keeping the beta/test builds separate from the official builds should make his life a bit easier when it comes to bug tracking (on Doom9)... should it not?
Cheers

Getting MPC compiled myself took me over 2 gig of downloads until one stupid MS SDK finally contained this stupid DirectShow sample baseclasses, I'd really like to see them in the svn tree for the project, and best would be the version that also works with MSVC8 and doesn't require the 3 or 4 fixes I needed to make.
Other than that I must've checked it out at a bad time and there were too much compile errors i'd had to fix.
Whatever, I was trying to find out if there is a way to get MPC optimized a bit especially with VMR9 modes and software scalers and shaders that constantly make my PC go all weird. Whatever I guess most of this stuff is provided by MS and not really optimizable. And of course stupid Intel Compiler had no way to integrate into MSVC8 ... *tz*
So before making any more efforts, is there any sense in trying to compile MPC with e.g. automatic vectorization for SSE e.g.?
celtic_druid
12th April 2006, 13:41
Don't think there is any way to get it to compile with ICL, at least not without some serious work.
Yeah, baseclasses got moved from the directshow SDK to the platform SDK some time back, before that it was an extra for the DX SDK.
No compiler errors here, although yes the baseclasses do require some modifications.

edit: omg i figured out my errors, something overwrote my DXSDK Includes with ancient files ... must've happened while fixing up stuff for GCC ...

Can someone tell me what Field Shift Deinterlace does? I kind of understand the others, I just discovered this in the new version.
foxyshadis
25th April 2006, 03:23
Attempts to line the two fields up to match. I'm not sure if it's both or just the second field, and I don't think it does any interpolation at all (faster that way), I haven't really tested it much.

I noticed it works slow when the picture moves horizontally. But! It looks slightly sharper than Bob to me and produces less artifacts.

Hi, Gabest. I've been using various incarnations of MPC for ages, so many thanks for that.
Two issues: one is I can't get mpc to frame step back - forward's okay; the keys seem to be assigned properly (vk_left and right respectively). I'm also not clear as to how to assign a new key properly. The other issue is whether MPC supports any kind of virtual surround output.
You're bound to ask me what version I've got; I dowloaded both the latest version of MPC plus the Home Cinema version - if you need file numbers I'll need to check when I get home tonight.
all the Best,
Smart

I only downloaded it on Saturday and I'm pretty sure it said "latest version" or something similar; typically I can't now remember where I got it or its version number - I'll get the details tonight! Thanks for your help.

I don't think so, but you could use ffdshow's audio decoder, it supports downmixing surround using a HRTF or headphone spatialization, if you meant that.
As for stepping back - I'd be surprised if it actually worked since DirectShow doesn't really support it; you can single-step forward but not backward with it, and seeking back some fraction of a second might also be off...

Okay; sorry for the delay - my existing MPC is 6.4.8.2
Since then I got mplayerc_20071015 [mplayerc_1107] and mplayerc_homecinema_x86_v1.0.11.0
Has anyone ever written a user guide for non-techies like me? I've looked on the home page but there doesn't seem to be any documentation (not for mere mortals, anyway!)
Cheers.

Hi, Leak. Yes, I was thinking about virtual surround support for headphones or two speakers. I'm not sure I know enough about setting ffdshow, though!

March 10, 2009. FFmpeg (http://www.ffmpeg.org/) 0.5 is out with many speed improvements.
Gabest, is there any chance to have a version of media player classic with ffmpeg built in? I hope your still out there. Thank you.
