creating DVD's with CCE 2.5 encoded .m2v files and AC3 (generated by DVD2AVI)... done several in the past, but I have run into problems (specially with anime)...
I author the DVD using DVD Studio Pro (under OSX in Mac), but should apply to other authoring programs also.

I set the max bitrate on the VBR to 9,000. The AC3 sound files (2 of them) add up to 600 (give or take) - leaving me about 200 as a "pad", but I still get an error message that the max bitrate of 9800 has been exceeded. Looking under the "Advance" tab and parsing through the video, I don't really see any problems.

Would anybody know what could be causing this? (I know I can get around this problem by reducing the max video bitrate, but I want to get the best possible quality :)

any insight would be appreciated.

Why not just decrease th max bitrate by 20 or something, maybe the problem then won't occur. And 20 will probably not be noticable at all!!

thanks for the suggestion... I know that reducing the bitrate would yield something useable sooner or later... the question that I had was if anybody knew if CCE is actually encoding video at a higher bitrate than the specified max bitrate (that could be a reason why the final movie bitrate was going over the 9800), or if the AC3 audio bitrate given by DVD2AVI is wrong (could it be higher than, say, 448 that is given on the file name?).

i think this might help you will your max bitrate problem...i assume you are getting this max bitrate problem when tryin to author it..i had the same problem after loading my .m2v and .ac3 into scenarist..i was getting a bitrate error sayin it was too high.. i didnt know what was wrong till i read a thread... u need to uncheck the DVD compliant box in CCE, this will actually activate your max bitrate setting..if the DVD compliant box is checked, according to Eyes'Only, it will still use the max bitrate of 9800 no matter what u set and if the bitrate peaks alot above 9800 when u try to author u will get a "bitrate is too high" error... take 9800 and subtract the kbps of your audio ac3.. for example: 400mb ac3 at 448 would set max bitrate to 9800-448 (i believe its done this way) = 9352 and give some leeway. for this to work though u have to uncheck the DVD Compliant box in the VIDEO settings..this is what i did for The Score which apparently jumped above a bitrate of 9800.. give this a try. i hope this was your problem..if it wasnt i apologize :) good luck
