I want to rip only the subtitle of a video and keep it small. When I use smartripper and use the demux to extra file, the resulted small file (around 2MB) is unreadable in the subtitle programs known here. Do I have to choose write to new vob file only?

Don't know what's your problem, you have the VOBs, if you wanna VobSub subtitles, chase the VOBs through VobSub, if you wanna SRT subtitles, chase the VOBs through SubRip.

SRT subtitles are of course a lot smaller.

Then you can delete the VOBs or what ever you wanna do.

I want to archive the subtitle in the small native form which is around 2 MB. I don’t want to process them. I want to process them maybe later and just keep the ripped subtitles. To keep the rip subtitles, I have noticed that if you demux it, the file will be unreadable in the programs here. You have to extract it into a new small vob! Try to demux a subtitle with smartripper and you will see what I mean.

There's a thread on demuxing subtitles at http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27843. But as the new DVD Decryptor isn't out yet, the best option is to unselect everything but the subtitles and rip the DVD. This way the subtitles will be part of the VOB and you'll be able to open it in whatever program you choose.

Thanks! I thought so. What is great about smartripper is that you can select the stream and choose demux to a NEW vob file. So I don’t have to do it again once just for the subtitles. I can do all I want in one step rip!
