Well, there's also Blu-Ray support, etc.

if you're waiting for the day where you can do a 1:1 copy of a DVD-9 you may wait forever.. other technologies will come one day but for the forseeable future (say 2-3 years) I would not expect a big push towards formats offering more space than DVD. DVD-Rs are still far from replacing our current CD burners..
