Windows Media Player 9 in Conjunction with "Corona" dramatically improves Internet streaming by introducing Fast Stream, which gives an instant-on, always-on experience, bringing home-theater-like audio and video quality to broadband PC users. "Corona" is poised to lead the third generation of streaming on the Web, which includes broadcast-quality experiences for end users and enhanced profitability for the entire digital media ecosystem.

"Corona" introduces two new professional level audio and video codecs. The new Windows Media Audio Professional is the first codec to enable Web-based delivery of 6-channel surround sound with full-spectrum, full-resolution audio (24 bit/96 kHz sampling).

A new version of the Windows Media Video codec provides a 20 percent efficiency boost compared with the previous version and now introduces the ability to provide HDTV-like video quality at file sizes half that of today’s DVDs, for local playback on the PC.

Verified: this is the real deal. But what good is it? We can play WMV 9 but we can't create it, or can we? I guess I could play around with the built-in CD ripper and see if WMA 9 is any good, but lets face it thats not gonna satisfy our Corona jones! If you come across any more info, let us know. Thanks man.

Try using the Windows Media Encoder....
The following formats are listed:
Windows Media Video (WMV) Screen V9
Windows Media Video (WMV) Standard V9

For audio:
Windows Media Audio (WMA) Standard V9
Windows Media Audio (WMA) voice V9
Windows Media Audio (WMA) Professional V9

But ive course I dont condone such a link to beta software.....

Nic, you were right, the codec does appear if you install WME 7.1, thanks for the tip. Well, I just did a little testing, comparing WM9 to RV9 at the medium streaming bitrates they are most likely to be used for, and here is my early conclusion:

WM9/Corona does NOT live up to the hype. RV9 kicks WM9's butt!

Here was how I tested: 1) Created an 640x256 .avi containing uncompressed RGB video and wav audio, the source was 30 seconds from chapter 15 of the Matrix, starting at frame 1101; the .avs was prepared with Gordian Knot using Soft Bicubic resize and Light noise reduction (I wanted to give these two codecs as compressible a source as I could that would still look good). 2) Compressed the .avi with a) Helix Producer using RV9 @ 700kbps 1-pass CBR (includes audio=96kbps RA8), Normal Motion and b) Windows Media Encoder using WM9 Standard at 700kbps 1-pass CBR (includes audio=96kbps WMA 9, with the smooth/sharp slider set to "50". 3) The resulting file sizes were 2,620 KB for the .rm and 2,706 KB for the .wmv.

The RM9 clip looked great (as usual) considering the video bitrate was only about 600 kbps and this was a fast-motion scene with lots of kungfu action :) The WM9 clip, OTOH, made Neo look like he was swimming through a sea of macroblocks, very disappointing. It's not that the RM9 clip didn't have artifacts, too, it's just that they weren't as bad or were better disguised. The WM9 post-processing is obvious and ugly, just like DivX's, maybe worse.

I don't want to sound like a RealVideo fanboy, because I am not; mostly what I've been using lately is DivX or XviD at 1350k CBR with AAC at 96k CBR, for the purpose of streaming to a target of 1.5 Mbps, using the .mp4 file format and Darwin Streaming Server. I would truly hope that MS could tweak their new codec so that it kicks ass when it goes gold in September. But I doubt that's gonna happen. If you are shooting for 768k or below, I have to recommend RV9.

@Kyo
have installed this and, this put on my Win XP desktop a cute message like "Windows XP Proffesional beta version 2600" or something like this.
I'm under win2k and it displayed a similar message on the desktop:Windows 2000 profesionnal version 2195 for test only"

What is this?
Is there a mean to avoid it?
I uninstalled the software but the message is still there.

@JasonFly:

I may have some kinda bad news for us. I just tried uninstalling WMP 9 and reinstalling WMP 7.1, and not only is the little message in the corner still there, but WMP crashes every time I try to start it. Doh! My gut feeling is that this problem isn't going to go away without a reformat and a fresh install of Windows 2000. But hell, I end up doing that every week anyway :p

After a lot of search This is the key to remove from registry ot avoid the watermark ;)
----------------------------------------------------------------

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SystemCertificates\CA\Certificates\FEE449EE0E3965A5246F000E87FDE2A065FD89D4]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SystemCertificates\ROOT\Certificates\2BD63D28D7BCD0E251195AEB519243C13142EBC3]
---------------------------------------------------------------
Just copy the lines between -- and make a txt put it there and rename to .reg and merge with the registry.

Enjoy the media player!

Can you explain more precise what to do with those registry entries if they just can not be deleted.

I'm triyin to explain it more easy but goes the wrong way :D

The only thing to do is search this strings in the registry and delete them, for this is the "-" in the above post(with the text between '--' you can make a .reg and this make the same as del this entries).

See ya.
