I have a few AVI movies with subtitles in a separate file. I want to combine the two to make an AVI file with permanent subtitles. I have found programs to convert the subtitles into many formats, but I can't figure out how to add them to the AVI file.
I tried Vobsub and it didn't work for me, the subs didn't show up.
Thanks a lot.

To add subs to a avi perminate you will have to reencode the avi files resulting in lower quality files.. Which isn't a good idea to do.. Anyways personal opinion its best to have a seperate sub file because it don't reduce quality of video and you can turn them on and off.. If you don't want to manage seperate files you can convert your text subs to ssa and mux them into the file using submux.. and then during playback use DVobSub..

Isn't there a way that doesn't require people to have DVobSub? I'll be sharing the movies with other people and would like to simply make AVIs that have the subtitles in them and don't require special software.
Thanks a lot,
David

No there is no other way except to reencode your movie.. and anywyas just download the DVobSub only install and put it on the cd if you give it out.. or direct people to there.. once they install it then there is no need.. Or them use a media player that can already do it.. either way you will have to download something or reencode the video files.

OK, great, I think I'll give both ways a try. Can I use a program that came with Gordian Knot to reencode?
Thanks,
David

Yes you can use VirtualDub that came with Gknot.. but again i can't restate enough it will result in worse quality then your original..
