i started a capture with divx v3.11 @ 6000kbs but forgot to stop it - now the avi is ~4gigs and can't be played.i tried to re-derive keyframe flags and save in direct stream mode but the result was just a black video.how to save ~50 important minutes of that file ?
thx

You could try to chop of the second half or so and rederive just the first bit. Perhaps adding the index makes the file go +4GB and that's the problem..?

how to add 'the index' ? the capture (virtualdub) stopped after reaching the 4gigs limit so it couldn't be written to the avi - that means how to keep a part of this movie ? do i have to reencode (cause direct stream didn't help) or are there other possibilities ?

Just chop a couple of megs of the end, using some file splitting tool perhaps.
Then open the file in vDub, it will see that the index is missing and recreate. (And remeber to use Rederive Keyframes)

doesn't seem to work - i splitted the file but when imported to vdub i can't play it.the saved avi is just black without sound.
the unsplitted file can be imported but when i want to play it comes the following error message: error decompressing video frame 0 - an unknown error occurred (maybe corrupt data) error code -100.
any other suggestions ?

Have you tried divfix instead of rederiving with vdub?

didn't try divfix - cause the file is missing the index -
but the problem seems to be the newer vdub versions. i tried v1.4.8 - v1.4.10 all made the same error - just v1.3c could properly import and rederive keyframes and save the file to a playable avi !!
-don't know why-
