I tried to import subtitle tracks generated with the latest version of SubRip v1.021. But whatever I try they show up wrong in Maestro, even if I use the SubRip generated palette file.
Did I miss some settings to be done within SubRip to get correct bmp/son/spf files?
Any help is highly appreciated...

I think you will need to adjust your colour settings within the 'Profiles~Cropping~Colors~Positioning menu.
try adjusting the settings in the Color menu
Check here (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvdsubs.htm) and just follow step 1, selecting Maestro where needed rather than other formarts.
When you get to the menu for selecting background, font, outline or antialsing colours you will notice a Maestro preset. Just select that and adjust the 'Colour order in the original DVD' settings'.

Taz69,
Just select that and adjust the 'Colour order in the original DVD' settings'
Still not there.
I've to admit that I allowed cropping for minimum size of 64x32 pixel to get smaller bitmaps on my drive. As far as I found out is that if my background color is anything but white, I don't manage to get it transparent in Maestro...
What order do adjust the 'Colour order in the original DVD' settings to?

I usually let Subrip pick the colours for the subtitles.
It has been okay for me.
Have you loaded the pallette created by Subrip into maestro by:
1. Right clicking on one of the subtitles which you have loaded into Maestro and selecting Edit Subtitle.
2. From the Subtitles Editor window that appears select the colors tab and Edit Palette.
3. From the Edit Palette window just select Load and load the <film>.spf file created by Subrip.
This will adjust the palette for all the subtitles from your subtitles file. :D
Please let me know if this works for you.

Sorry I have just realised that you might be on about the Output Format menu's settings.
Within the SpruceDVD Maestro's tab
Primary color 0 (background) - Black with a contrast of 0
Primary color 1 (font) - White with a contrast of 15
Primary color 2 (outline) - Black with a contrast of 15
Primary color 3 (antialias) - Grey with a contrast of 15
I'm sure I could find better settings but these work ok with most things...
