Hi, i just bought a AverMedia EZ Capture card (bt848 chipset) recently and i had lots of problems with any drivers in win2k whether they be the drivers on the supplied CD-ROM the to universal drivers available, so i decided to try the VFW type drivers in Win98 and to my surprise it works like a dream!

This brings me to the question is it possible to use these drivers in windows 2k? i ask because win2k really doesnt wanna install them, it mentions an error.

I wondered if there were any VFW drivers for the bt848 board that will install in 2k?

Any help will be greatly appreciated,

There is just a dshow wrapper for vfw applications in >win2k. The vfw framework is gone, M$ just supports dshow. The btwincap drivers work like charme in win2k with my avermedia TV card btw., you may experience trouble with application that bring their own drivers (like moretv, dscaler,...) - just go to my homepage (link in the signature) and download BtWincapswitcher and execute it in such case that the driver causes a BSOD or the system hangs.

I think you read my problem wrong, i can get the WDM drivers to work, but they work no where near as good as the VFW drivers supplied with the card, i get such problems as not being able to capture at max resolution and funny white lines in my video (not interlace problems!) etc. thats why i wanna use the VFW drivers instead, but they dont install in 2k, therefore i wondered if there were any VFW drivers that do?

Any ideas? or fix's for my problem?

Thanks for replying, hope you can help me more too :)

erm, did you read me at all?

THERE IS NO VFW IN WIN2k.

Just a wrapper that wraps WDM drivers and emulates vfw for applications that are built with the vfw api.

You should really give the btwincap drivers a shot, they're excellent, can use the whole resolution (768x576) etc. - in virtualdub you have to set everything correctly of course, else you will get some trouble, but that is another matter.

Ah, and before I forget that:

THERE IS NO VFW IN WIN2k.

(And no way to make such drivers work.)

I can also repeat that VFW is substituted by DirectShow.

hmmmm... wierd, i read on a site somewhere that XP is the first version of windows that cannot use VFW

How strange....

I tried those drivers before and they suck bad for some reason with my card, the max res i can capture at is VCD resolution, and i know you said you have to set everything up properly etc. but i have and for some reason they still are no were near as good.

Ow well, guess im gonna have to stick with my 2k/98 dual boot for now.

Thanks again for your help.
