I recently got a Canon Mv4i and foolishly recorded quite a lot in the extended recording modes LP (1.5x), ESP (2x) and ELP (3x). After installing Windows XP, I have no problems capturing LP footage in Premiere. Capturing ESP and ELP doesn't work properly though : either it doesn't work at all or the image is totally screwed (with blocks of coloured noise).
AFAIK, in LP mode, the data are simply written more tightly onto the tape (1.5x), but with ESP the data are actually more compressed (2x). ELP seems to be a combination of both. Since the video data is more heavily compressed than standard DV, I suppose that the data can't be decompressed by the normal DV codecs anymore. I've been trying to find any information on this on the Internet but didn't find anything.
Does anyone know if, and how, ESP/ELP footage can be captured?
cheers,
pir
P.S. we need a DV forum at doom9.org!
