View Full Version : Number Of Frames

Hi,
I only try to understand some details. I do rip and convert with
DVD2SVCD by chapters.
Does anyone know why the number of frames displayed in DVD2SVCD
is different,i.e. smaller, than the number of frames displayed by
ifoedit?
Is this normal?
And if it is normal, what is the cause of that?
Thank you for help.

I've never taken the time to look into this, but if it is only a small difference, it may be due to the movie offset you may have set in the bbMPEG tab (default is 2 seconds) - depending on the frame rate, this could cause a difference of <60 frames.

The ifo isn't always correct. This is the reason why DVD2SVCD 'counts the frames with CCE'. After this step DVD2SVCD calculates the right bitrate to fit the movie on the chosen number of CDs, and not at the beginning with the information from the ifo.

Thank you for your answers,
but that is not exactly what I mean.
In this case I use TMPG and not CCE.
The number of frames can be seen directly before encoding, i.e. before
bbmpeg.
I have opened the ifo-file with ifoedit and generate a tmpg template
of that was DVD2SVCD internal routines have ripped. You can see in this file the number of frames and this template is generated by parsing the vob-files.

Ask yourself why is this important for you to know? Does DVD2SVCD not do what you want it to do?

Hello dvd2svcd,
I apologize if I bother you. That was definitly not my intention.
DVD2SVCD is a very good and helpful program and I am very glad that I found it. I have copied a couple of DVDs with it and it works very fine. I had some typical problems with cce that could be solved (Q&A)and some with I-Author that couldnīt. But that is not nessessary, I use Vcxbuild.
I have a problem with my DVD-player, it does not support switchable subs. Therefore I have to use permanent subs, but I am not realy lucky with it.
Another suitable approach for me are miniDVDs which are supported by my DVD-player and I try to make a miniDVD without using an authoring program, but only DVD2SVCD and ifoedit to remux. With DVD2SVCD I do the partioning in several CDs (ripping by chapter), the bitrate calculation, dvd2avi control etc. until TMPG will start. TMPG will be started manually and there I use the TMPG-template of ifoedit to force the GOP-structure. I tell you nothing new, that the problem with this method is the syncronization and that leads to my original question.
I hope that clearifies my intentions.

P.S.: I know the ifoedit/TMPG-guide and I used it as far as suitable,
but I have still some problems with sync at chapter boundaries.
