I am trying out Roxio's Videopack 5.0 for converting DVD to SVCD. It seems very fast. I converted one sample .vob file but it coded no sound. What is the problem? Does anybody know how to convert DVD to SVCD using Videopack? I know the problems is with down sampling. Please help.

Thanks.

I guess some people use this soft ... I don't have it, so these are just guesses: does your output file contain audio at all? i.e. did you analyse the stream and does it contain audio at all?
Also, why do you think the problem lies w/sample rate conversion? Error messages perhaps? AFAIK, Videopack will also create DVD-compliant output ((i.e. w/48kHz audio), so even without a conversion, you should still be able to get some audio ... what does the manual say?

The manual does not say anything, becasue Roxio states that the programme is not for "ripping" DVDs but they support it indirectly by saying it can be done easily. It does recognise .VOB files and when I drag the .VOB file on the editing line it does have sound.

I was trying to back up a DVD from .VOB file to SVCD, everything went ok but no sound was recorded (Either on a home top deck Hardware DVD player or software player). When I selected the .VOB file the following message came up in red for audio:

Audio
Sample rate 0 samples/sec
bit per sample 16
channels 1
bitrate 0 bit/sec
Audio Codec MPEG L2

Thanks.

Videopack is not support *.ac3 sound format.

You have to convert the sound separately and remux the files.
But you might have synchronization problems.

Thank you pccfm, "Videopack is not support *.ac3 sound format". I thought that might be the case. I know Videopack can multiplex the video and audio file (I think it support *.mpa). How do I convert (Demultiplex)the audio file from *.ac3 format to *.mpa format? What apps would I need. Thanking you in advance.
