View Full Version : Problem using the nice extra quality effects with CCE even with vfapi safemode

Hello. I haven't taken up space post the log file because I know what causes the issue and I wondered if anyone can suggest anything for this direct problem. I have searched on freezing issues and I have experienced them first hand with the issues that came up over a year ago and got resolved. This is specifically different.

If I use D2S 'out of the box' everything is cool (using CCE 2.5 full). And it makes fantastic backups again and again.

However after reading many comments over the last few months about the improvements Mark etc have found with sharpen and bibcubic resize etc. I thought I'd have a go with a couple. When uping the quality priority to 22, sharpen 0.4, bicubic resize, I get freezes shortly after the first pass on a 4 pass vbr encode. I didn't use TS or anti-noise. I had reviewed frames within D2S's facility and they did look much better.

So, I thought I would fire it off again with 'Safemode' selected. I left it going today but when I came home from work it had frozen at 21% again on 4 passes.

Like I say, as far as i can tell this is not a hardware issue etc. as I have successfully completed many backups with the standard options and never froozen and never had to use safemode, it just works.

I have XP Pro, KR7A Raid, 756RAM PC2100, AthlonXP 1800+, UDMA133 disks.

I may try it with 2.62 instead of 2.5, but most feedback has always been that this is LESS stable.

I just want to use the lovely extra options, can anyone help ???

Cheers

Equilibrium;)

A log may still prove helpful in diagnosing your specific trouble. What version of avisynth are you using? Are you using mpeg2dec.dll or mpeg2dec2.dll? These are two things that caused your same type of scenario for me...

I have navigated through the .d2s project file in dvd2avi and it looks fine, as does the .avi file when I play it in powerdvd.

I am using mpeg2dec.dll.
The version of avisynth.dll is 1.0.7.4, product version 1.0beta7d. I only have two instances and they are in my dvd2svcd install directory under program files, and another in windows\system32, bith are this version.

I have never seperatly updated these files I always use the bundle that comes with d2s.

I have stuck this in as well now. As you suggested.

To be precise it completed 3Hrs 07Minutes of 11Hours 32Mins or 21%.

Out of the box I would get 1.635 realtime encoding but with these options and safemode it dropped to nearly half realtime, which sounds quite normal from other peoples feedback in the past.

You don't overclock, do you? If you do, clock down!

(overclock) No I don't, but thx for the reply.

UlimateDBZ, I just found your old thread about similar problems (missed it first time around sorry).

I have now changed to mpeg2dec2.dll and updated from pre24 to the proper latest release of d2s.

I am now running the same movie through without safemode.

I will post findings tomorrow.

Hi there,

I've got the same probs after making some nice backups. Nothing changed on the system but it also hangs on a 4pass job.

Deinstalled DVD2SVCD and CCE, made a new install and now everything works fine for me.

As I said, last night I uninstalled d2s, reinstalled the latest build, changed to mpeg2dec2.dll and fired it all off again.

But, it still frooze at 21%. I have still been using the original internal rip, and I guess I could need a fresh rip so I'll try that next.

Try setting the Lum. Brightness field in the DVD2AVI tab to 5, and attempt a short encode. Report back the results.

I forgot to mention, that I did that as well, in today's failed one, so that didn't help.

It doesn't complete one pass, the freeze is in the later part of vob4 of a 5 vob movie.

The whole file runs to the titles in the project file within dvd2avi, but the .mpv file only goes up to the point where it freezes obviuosly.

This was also happening on other encodes that were not action movies.

I will try a fresh 1 chapter encode with a fresh rip from my dvd collection and see what happens. I am due for a OS rebuild also as I like to do them regulaly to keep things clean, so if this fresh rip doesn't work I will try again after a rebuild.

Try to encode this movie your normal way and see if it fails. Maybe one of your vob's is corrupted ? Try ripping the DVD again using the internal routines. Good luck
