hi guys,
i created a svcd with dvd2svcd (latest release) from the movie "Pearl Harbor"

the choices for the aspect ratio were 3 :
-4:3 (4:3 no borders added)
-16:9 (4:3 borders added)
-anamorphic
AFAIK, the third one should work only on 16:9 TV, btw i have this kind of tv so i tried this option (instead of 16:9 on a 4:3 with borders that was the option i always used)

well, after *some* hours (3hours long movie....) of encoding, i had 3 cd images. everything was working well on the pc, but when i burned a CDRW to test one of images on the standalone dvd player (mustek v520) the image was shaking from one side to the other continously (sorry if i cant explain better, i dont know which is the right word in english for this problem)

so, my question is: what the hell happened ?

Your choice of aspect ratio should not be based on the TV type you have, but rather the source of the video you are encoding. Look up the video on Amazon, or even on the video case, to see what ratio it is in. Then, when you begin the DVD2SVCD process, verify that it selects the corresponding ratio. DVD2SVCD almost always can draw this information itself, and select the proper ratio automatically, but occasionally it can be tripped up so you need to verify it.

Your problem may be that the video source was not the same as the ratio you encoded it at. You can verify that you have chosen the proper ratio before the long encoding process, by clicking the Go! button but selecting Preview.

Hope this helps you...

ok but dont u think that it's strange that i have this "shaking" on the standalone dvd player ?!?
i could understand if the output had a wrong aspect ratio, but not this strange effect

There's several post on encoding 4:3 , 16:9 or Anamorphic you can try using the search button.
For what i remember some have solved the problem playing an anamorphic DVD for few seconds before the svcd.
If you have a 16:9 TV you can use 4:3(no borders added).
Look this thread http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23754&highlight=anamorphic+encoded
they're explaining better then me.

i could understand if the output had a wrong aspect ratio, but not this strange effect The encoded video itself is not necessarily "shaking", that could just be the way your TV is reacting to the ratio which you encoded in... read that post emilius just offered, it will help.

thank you for your help, btw i've already deleted all the files, so i will re-encode the whole movie in the old way (and do some test with small pieces) :-)
