View Full Version : Problems ripping Disney movies!
makaone
7th July 2002, 21:38
Ok, have ripped about 50 movies of various types with the same settings , and have had perfect results.
The settings have been ( 2400 , 1900 , 2250 ) in the bitrate, with temp smoother at ( 2,1 ) q factor of 5 , and sharpnes of ( 2 )with 1 pass.
Everytime i try to backup ( Toy story , toy story2 , bugs life ) i end up with the same results, it drops the last 2 chapters ,hence only 3/4 of movie completed.
If i play the mpeg file it's the same.
Have noticed in the log that the max bitrate is smaller than the min bitrate, i don't know why.
Heres the log if it helps...

What did you use to rip the VOBs? If it was other than internal routines, that could be the cause of your troubles...
makaone
8th July 2002, 08:29

Just ripped " Jumanji " with the same settings with perfect results.
Heres the log if it helps!!!!!

Have just realised that all the movies i'm having trouble with are " DISNEY PIXAR " releases ( Bugs life , toy story , toy story 2 ) the movie ends up 2 chapters short on all of them.
Have tried to rip with smart ripper, but with no avail.
Same settings as above , they work fine on every other title except these 3.
Have just read a thread saying to rip with SR and enable " Macrovision " will try and post results.
Any help greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

In SmartRipper, have you tried to rip *just* the video-stream?
Or maybe try DVD Decrypter. Otherwise try posting in the decrypting forum.

This issue is beyond DVD2SVCD, it's more of an issue for the Decrypting forum like swede suggested. But if vStrip doesn't work, I'm led to believe that nothing will...

Just as an FYI, I have ripped Toy Story and Toy Story 2 NTSC versions without any issues, using the internal ripping of DVD2SVCD. One thing I might note is that since I don't have a DVD-ROM in the PC I use to convert, I rip the VOBs to the harddisk first (via my network) and then do the conversion on the local files. Just wanted to confirm that it's not these movies...

Ok , just re-ripped to hd with smart ripper and tried to convert , but it fails creating the second cue file for some reason.
I check the ( Mpeg file , DVD2SVCD crated ) and the first one works fine and is 791 meg in size , but the second one is 1.5 gig in size but it works fine.
Could somebody inlighten me as to why this is happening with these 3 movies and nothing else.
I've searched everywhere but can't fine a solution to this problem.

VCDXBuild failed to create a bin/cue file!
I've read that this movie and the others have been copied with no problems , but i can't get it to happen.
Tied to ripp other animatated title to compare, and they worked fine , so hence my problem!
Thanks for responces so far , just hope that i can work it out .

I myself have ripped a few disney movies, all without a problem also.

I'm not sure if this helps, but I did have a lot of problems converting Disney's Tarzan. The 2 Toys Story movies worked fine. For Tarzan, I used internal routines to rip to my hard drive. I then did a "rip and convert" instead of just converting. Yes, I know the files were already "ripped", but it kept failing. Someone on this board a while back suggested ripping the ripped files. Sounded crazy to me, but I had tried everything else. I did this and it worked for me. You might want to try this. Again, I didn't have a problem with these movies you listed, but at least it's something to try. Good Luck.

I have just finished trying to rip again and i use " internal routines " to re-rip it as you suggested but this time i got the second cd , but it stops short again.
I noticed this time that when CCE is operative it starts at 2.1 but as it nere's the end it ends up at 4.2 ( I can't explain ).
I tried ripping and convert only the last few chapters and it works fine but when i try to do the lot , i get nothing , or the 3/4's of the movie on the second cd , the first always works fine, or i get a bloody great huge mpeg file.
I might have to concede defeat , and just use the original. ( That hurts).
Is it possible that the settings i'm using are not right , can't see why they would be , but i will take back to default and try again.

How many vob files are on the cd?
@jlr2000 yeah thats something to try, some people it has worked for but in other cases it dosen't, but i would of tried it since nothing else so far has helped him. I see in his log file that he only has 3 vob files being ripped and it said 1-4 being prepared.
Now if it says it sees 4 vob files to be ripped, is it possible that part of the disk is damaged? and thats why..
@makaone you could try ripping with vstrip if the internal routines dosen't give you the 4 vob files it looks like you need for this movie.

Ok , its good news , i manage to convert all 3 movies , with no probs.
Ripped toy story , toy story 2 with smart ripper , then tried to convert with no results, but when i re-ripped it with " Internal Routines" and selected the last chapter which was only " 6 sec " long it was succesful.
Then tried it with the last chapter NOT select which was the default when loading Ifo file , and it did'nt work. ( WEIRED )
As far as " Bugs Life " went i always had no probs ripping it to hard drive as i could always whatch it via " Power Dvd " with no probs just by loading the vobs that were created.
The prob was that it always created a 1.5 gig mpeg file for the second cd , which then failed , or completed the vcdxbuild , but had alot missing.
Anyway i turned the dvd over and ripped the " Wide Screen " version with the same settings in 3 hours with perfect results.
I would really love to know why the " full screen " version caused so many probs though.
Anyway thanks for all your responses , its good to know there is somewhere to come when probs occur.
:D :D :D
ps. Chainsaw135 , the reason it only showed them vobs was that i was trying to ripp the last half of the movie as i never had probs with first half.
