I have as yet been unable to find a proper vbr mpeg2 splitter. Does anyone know exactly how DVD2SVCD splits its (vbr) mpeg2? TMPGEnc does not split files properly (audio cuts out 30secs before video) for me.

Questions pertaining to how bbMPEG itself operates are best asked in a forum pertaining specifically to bbMPEG. This forum is for questions pertaining to DVD2SVCD. If you reword your question and ask for assistance to correct your 30sec cutoff problem, then it would apply. We will need a log of the failed conversion, however.

The TMPGEnc split program was not while using DVD2SVCD. I've had very good experience using DVD2SVCD. I will pursue my question elsewhere.

What's so wrong with that question? Anyway, the answer is actually in any dvd2svcd log file :) ... the encoded movie is demultiplexed (using internal routines, tmpgenc or the bbmpeg tools will do just as well) and then multiplexed using a specified source range (you can either use a filesize or seconds). That's how you get your CD-sized chunks. If you want, you can find a walkthrough for this procedure at vcdhelp.com.

Ahh.. I must have misunderstood the question. I took the title to mean that he wanted to know exactly how bbMPEG went about splitting (i.e. the actual code). I was wrong, your questions is fully legitimate, sorry for the misunderstanding :)

Hi crimazine,

perhaps this thread is what you were looking for - see my explanation so I don't have to repeat it here. ;)

Thanks for the tips smiller667 and gerti67, I will look into both. It would be nice to find a frame level splitter like Womble's Mpeg2vcr that worked properly with VBR Mpeg2. I will be content with filesize splitting with bbmpeg for the time being.
