View Full Version : Can't decrypt 'The One'

I'm having lots of problem with 'The One' DVD. Nothing seems to rip it.
Smartripper starts up with the message that some files are still locked and that I should unlock it with a player. The problem is that my DVD player doesn't seem to play the DVD. :( So I tried using auth.dll and auth_call.exe, but this crashed.
vStrip gives a "lost sync" error, which means that I need to authenticate my DVD drive, which as I explained above, I can't because my DVD player doesn't play it and auth_call.exe doesn't work.
DVDDecrypter gives a "The device does not recognize this command", which also essentially means I need to authenticate.
I'm in the process of downloading another DVD player to see if it will work, but any ideas on what else I should do?

Which version of DVD Decrypter were you using exactly? 3.1.1.0?
I checked my source files because that isnt an error I would expect it to say... I couldnt find a single instance of the word 'recognize'.
That to me, looks more like an OS error and not something from DVD Decrypter.
Can you please CTRL+C, CTRL+V the 'real' error DVD Decrypter throws up.

Haha, I got WMP 6.4 to authenticate it for me. :)

Oh, I know it's an OS error. Basically, it's an error that comes up when you're trying to access a file on the DVD when it isn't authenticated yet.

I fixed the authenticating problem altogether by running ForceASPI. Silly me...

I think you'll find the error that windows comes up with when you try and read from a non authenticated drive/disc is 'Too The maximum number of secrets that may be stored in a single system has been exceeded.' or on Windows .NET (XP?) 'File system error (-2147351799)'.
Even so, you said you were having trouble with a particular disc. Not having ASPI installed would have given you problems on all discs - forcing you to manually authenticate using a software player - which would have either used its own local aspi dll or native NT IO.

I dunno where it came from then. I still think it's an OS message.

Well, ForceASPI apparently helped out...

Wow, I am having the EXACT same problem with Mememto,
Same errors etc, running windows XP, cannot play it using PowerDVD xp, or WinDVD,
Tried ForceAspi, didn't work. Tried downloading Adaptecs newest ASPI drivers, didn't work. Tested 4 other Dvd's no problems at all, just this one.
PowerDVD gives a "this disc is scratched" error, WinDVD gives "unplayable Media" or something.
Smartripper says to unlock the files, but it does it on a different file every time.
How did you get WMP 6.4 to play the Dvd? I can just play music out of 6.4 on my XP, it uses 8 for everything else.
Heres the error that DVD Decriptor gives
-------------------------------------------------------------
ASPI Command Error!
Device:[1:0:0]Pioneer DVD-ROM DVD-500M
ASPI SRB STATUS 0x04
Interpretation : Host Adapter Did Not Detect An Error
Target Status: 0x02
Interpretation : Check Condition

-------------------------------------------------------------
If I ignore the error it works up until that sector then comes up with a "vendor Unique" error on it

I think you have a completely different error. Seems like a problem with the DVD? Does it play fine in a standalone DVD player?
>How did you get WMP 6.4 to play the Dvd?
First, you will need a DirectShow DVD decoder. Second, apply the registry hack available here: http://registry.winguides.com/display.php/717/
Then in WMP 6.4, under the File menu is the option to "Open DVD".

Cant tell you much about a vendor unique error. Sorry. :-(
In fact, I've never seen it come up with that message before.... I wonder what that sensearea code actually means?!?

The Dvd played without a hitch on my stand alone, I watched the movie perfectly. I tested it at work before I left with it as well. It is brand new, never been watched before. The error actually comes up halfway through he credits at the end, So I used Dvd Decriptor and stopped it when I hit the errors, it encoded fine but stops halfway through the credits at the end, so is watchable.
