View Full Version : IFOEdit - not actually writing any "stripped" files...

Can anyone help with this?

I am trying to strip so discs - stripping the extras out which I don't need (ie Trailers, Deleted Scenes etc).

The main film VTS remain untouched, I am concerned with seperate files. I am loading the IFO files into IFOEdit and checking the following options;

Strip VOB ID's
Strip Streams
Correct Vob Unit
Correct IFO Tables

- then selecting a new directory, progressing to the selection screens, and basically unchecking eveything since I want none of the content.

This is where the fun starts; IFO then goes through the motions of processing the files, but doesn't actually write anything to the new directory - anyone else had this problem, how did you solve it?

Hi,

I had this problem the other day, but I'm still very new to this ripping thing.

Can't quite remember eaxctly what I did. If I recall, I used the drop down "VOB EXTRAS", rather than use the button on the front screen.

Hang on though, you said you "unchecked everything" well no wonder, you need check keep Audio & Subpicture at least, otherwise you end up all reading and no writing.

Sorry can't be much more help.

unchecking everything, so you want nothing ??
yeh, you probably get nothing !
Maybe i misunderstood.

Waitaminute, i think i see what you are trying to do, you try to open a specific VOB and remove the things from that VOB ???
Thats not how Ifoedit works. You should select the first IFO, like VTS_01_0.IFO and than it will strip the stream of the WHOLE movie. So select the streams you want to KEEP. That should be at LEAST one audio stream.

Did you perhaps stripped the streams already at ripping ?

If you don't need the extras, then just don't include the corresponding VTS files in your disk. You don't need to strip it, just leave it.

- thanks for the notes...

BUT; although the removal of the VOBs before burning will work on most DVD players, on Sony machines the machine refuses to play the disc since some files are missing; how do you get around that?

Or is it easier to dump the Sony!?

:scared:

I've not come across that before. A DVD player refusing to play a disc because some of the files are missing. I can see it if the VTS_1 vobset was missing - but the Sony must have some sort of 'checker'. It seems like a 'watermark' affair. I would dump the Sony.
Happy Ripping

I stripped a dvd with the following, this contains the main movie:
VTS_03_0.VOB
VTS_03_1.VOB
VTS_03_2.VOB
VTS_03_3.VOB

No extra's are on it, because i delete that VOB, it's not likely that the extra's would be in between two VOBS

i renamed it to:

VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB

Used IfoEdit to create IFO files etc..

Burned it and Played on my SONY DAV-S500 with no probs at all

I burned my entire collection this way (about 20), none fails on my SONY !

Here's what you need to do to make sure that you include all needed files in your dvd.

First, open video_ts.ifo with ifoedit then click DVD Play. In the dvd menu, play the movie for a while then skip to the last chapter and wait until the movie ends (do a fast forward if you don't want to wait). Once the menu reappears click Exit and you will be presented with a list of titlesets. Note these numbers then click ok. Once you're back in the ifoedit screen, check the lower portion window and look for the list of the titlesets. Each titleset corresponds a vts number. For example, if you have been presented with titleset 1 and 3, and each corresponds to vts 1 and 2 respectively, then that means that you need to copy all files starting with vts_01_x.* ad vts_02_x.*. It's that easy. Hope this helps.

Tried an experiement last night;

For months my Sony has rejected and discs from which I have messed around deleting VOBs (it handles them OK if they're stripped, but not deleted).

In view of the comments I tried deleting some VOBs and then before burning, creating a disc image, The result? Deleted VOBs and a disc that plays perfectly on my Sony!

:)

Why should a disc image creation matter so much? Anyone any clues on that?
