View Full Version : Weird problem playing "all-regions allowed" dvd's

Today I bought four DVD's and out of the four I could only play one.
The common denominator is that the unplayable ones are from the same distributor. I have never encountered this problem before. I have played many, many, both region 1 and region 2 DVDs without any hassle, using DVD Genie (when necessary) and DVD Region Killer.

The problem manifests itself in this way:
I insert the DVD and the DVD begins to play, but before it gets to the menu, there's an intro from the distributor and during it, the image freezes. I never get to the scene selection and can't get to the "root menu" or anything, to get the film playing.
The DVDs are "all-regions-allowed" PAL (although the text on the boxes say Region 2).

My drive is a region free (patched) Pioneer DVD-116. It's reasonably new, came out during fall/winter last year. No matter if I set the region to 1 or 2, the DVD starts playing (no questions about changing the region from WinDVD 4) and I have also tried WinDVD version 3, PowerDVD 4, and Ravisent Cinemaster DVD 4.0.

I can, however, rip the DVD (I've only tried one, but I assume they're all the same) with Smartripper!

Has anyone got a clue why this is happening?
