I had a nice suprise last night when I went to copy a film called Elizabeth (all about Queen Elizabeth I of England - I know, I know, I should get out more!!!).
I went to rip it through SmartRipper only to find that the whole disc was unencrypted. This is the first one that I have ever come across this. Has anyone any comments??????
Happy ripping:D

I had the same surprise as you when I bought the box of Albator 78 in french here, in Quebec. Imavision, the editor, didn't use Macrovision within their product. :sly:

I then have test to record it to a VHS and it worked perfectly. Here comes a question for all of thoses who have noticed the same: If a DVD is unencrypted, will it *always* be easy to copy it to VHS this way, without glitch ? Or there is other things to consider ?

Ciao!

It is Macrovision, not encryption, that interferes with analog copying.

i often get to rent unencrypted movies.
which is quite nice for it is way faster to rip.

but dont misinterpret CSS protection with macrovision.
this 2 differents things.

css is scramble algorythm.
macrovision slighty alters your video so your vcr wont be able to copy it perfectly (if i'm right, it syncs white&black very quickly, too fast for your vcr).

so to resume you can get a non css dvd with macrovision et vice versa.

but who cares macrovision for i dont see the point in copying dvd on vhs !

Geeezz!! Thanx for the fast answer ;)

So (for example) when I rip a DVD, and I check the DeMacrovision checkbox, while ripping it does 2 separate things : DeMacrovision and UnEncrypt (blocks) ?

Thanx!!

exactly :it does decrypt and it does take macrovision off,

and i would advise you take demacrovision off with ifoedit instead of you descrambling tool (smartripper or other) for this is only thing you ripper should be used for (dont strip or anything...)

There are a lot of pirate copies of movies coming from China that have no encryption (because they have no key generator?). These are really good looking DVDs, and to the untrained eye, would easily pass as legitiment products (ie, silk-screened DVD labeling, and professionally produced cover art copies). One quick way to test to see if they are pirate, is to see if the label says that the disk is "DUAL LAYER", then putting the DVD in the computer to find the real size (will be less than 4.7GB). As far as I can tell, the far east pirates do not yet have the capability to produce the dual layer disks. However, they are using a plastic that is the same smokey-gold color that dual layer disks have (but they still are only single layer) - another "smoke" screen. I have bought some of these pirates off of eBay. The seller - in Hong Kong - swears that they are legit, but they are not.

These guys are large scale pirates and can have really bad effects on the movie industry (this is TRULY stealing). This is NOT what we are doing by backing up our DVDs and the occassional copy of a rental or two. We don't personally profit by these copies - these guys do, and on a large scale.

I have too bought one of theses, but between you and me, I knew the dvd wasn't legit.

It was a "Candy Candy" dvd from China. Since there was a trial about "who was the real author" of "Candy Candy", all its stuff was retired from the market.

We, all fans of Candy Candy, have suffered for about 10 years because of this trial. We weren't able to see again Candy Candy in our TV, and weren't able to buy any kind of stuff of Candy ...

Even if the trial is now finished and they established who was the author, to avoid further problems with that, the author have chosen to do not re-edit the Candy Candy television series. Even the house of Toei Animation do not even want to hear a thing about that.

This greatly push the pirates to get advantage of thoses situations. In fact, alot of our childhood series are currently in trials.. Let's talk about Goldorak(Grendizer), Lady Georgie and the worst (for me) Candy Candy !!

And sorry to tell it that way, if the authors, editors and distributors continue to treat the real fans like that, I will "continue" to purchase this kind of stuff if needed. :( It's "their" trial, not mine!

Sorry all, I just needed to say it!

I am intrigued about this 'Candy, Candy'. I have never heard of it. It must be fairly well known if the Far East are doing DVD's. Mind you, I have led a sheltered life here in England !!!!!

There is 2 japanese mangas, don't mix the 2 .. There is Candy that is a hentai manga, and there is "Candy Candy" that is an orphan little girl.

Candy Candy is from Japan and was introduced world-wide in every country television :) Well almost all !

Do a search on "Candy Candy" and you will find fan websites... When I was a little girl, it was sacred for me to sit and watch her every saturday morning :)

Even now, at 28 years old, I have watched the serie (yes I have found it !) and I have never cried as I did in my whole life when watching it again. Every adult wish one day to return as they were young.. And that's what Candy Candy made me feel to see her again after 20 years :)

Lots of adults like me that have childrens would really prefer to present thoses beautiful series instead of the damned Pokemon and Quads shits.. This is really 2 different world.

Its funny because 2 of the 3 series that you have mentionned are in order for me from France ! :)

In Quebec, we only have the Capitaine Flam movie  so I have ordered the DVD series of it, and the one of Ulysse 31 :)

Later I will put the hand on others like Tom Sawyer, G-Force etc... :)

Here in Quebec we only have Albator and "Les mystérieuses cités d'or" i dunno how it's called in english...

Thanx erwan! This is a great site!

I would speak to you in french, but buddies in there won't understand a word of what we're saying! :p

Is it right? You are in Canada ? So they ship to canada ?

For now, I have looked at manga-distribution (you surely know) but they don't ship anymore overseas  so I have a friend in France that buy 'em for me and ship them to me... but it's alot of shipping cost!!

I see they have Capitaine Flam in DVD at almost the same price as manga-distribution :)

Thanx again for that link!
