Using Virtual dub, when I try to extract audio from a movie that is ac3 encoded for the purpose of making a vcd. I get the following errors "ACM failed to suggest audio decompression format" and "avi output wav: The handle is invalid". Does anyone know how to get around these errors? I don't have a clue what they mean. Any help would be appreciated.

:o You can try using DVDCutter, Run it->Tools->AVI(DivX) Merger->1. Sound Ripper->Mp3FromAVI
You can download the latest version DVDCutter in www.jummpa.com

vdub trys to decompress your ac3 audio, and that is not possible. you have to set audio mode to direct stream copy and convert the resulting ac3 file afterwards.

Thanks for the reply, but when I extract the audio using direct stream the resulting wav file is only a couple of hundred megs and when I insert it into audio source in tmpgenc the sound doesn't fit the movie. I must be missing something you said. Thanks for your help.

That's because the 'wav'-file you get is accually an ac3-file. Check out the FAQ in the Audio Encoding for more info. (Especially #15)
