I just bought the same PlexCombo 20/10/40/12A drive for my dad's 2.4 Ghz system and have the same problem. I even downloaded adaptec's new 4.7 aspi .dlls, installed them, rebooted, ran the DVD successfully in PowerDVD first, then tried using SmartRipper in Gordian Knot, and it still won't go above 2x ripping speed. It works, but it is painfully slow, especially when my Pioneer DVD drive cranks along at 8x-10x. Does anyone know if this drive is locked at 2x for ripping?
thanks,
Philip

hi,
for ripping removing CSS and macrovision protections is involved, this takes some time, the reader COULD be faster but the key has to be found, it's not at all a problem for me if ripping occurs at 2X

Hi,
The problem is that the Plextor Combo drive on my dad's Win2K P4 2.4Ghz system rips the same movie (Risky Business & Count of Monte Cristo) at only 2x, while my Pioneer DVD rips those same disks at 6-9x on a P4 1.8 Ghz Win2K system. It's nice to rip a dvd in 8-10minutes, setup encoding in GK, go to sleep & be done with it.
So the question people will want to know is what DVD drives rip fast?
& what ones should we avoid (assuming we're all DVD ripping fans)?
Cheers,
Philip
