I wanted to extract specific chapters (wish i could get specific time slots) from various DVD movies I have so i can create a compilation of favorite scnes etc.

Smartripper supposedly can do this, but the problem is, the newest version 2.9 i believe, will split the vob file in such a way that the 2nd part always has an invalid m2v file. i don't know why...but if i tell it to create one huge vob file, it has no problems.
anyone have a clue if this is a bug in smartripper?

I wanted to try out dvddecryptor, but i don't think it lets you extract individual chapters.

Anyone know a good way to do this once i have the whole vob file on my hard disk? maybe with some kind of vob splitter?
I tried vobedit, but it doesn't split vob files, just joins them and demuxes them.
but once i demux the m2v and ac3 files
how do i trim them to get the chapter I want?

The new version of DVD Decrypter does let you rip a certain chapter(s).
The problem with invalid m2v or whatever is that there is no nice header, it just jumps straight in. Same applies to AC3.
Whilst you might not be able to play the m2v, im sure the encoding programs can handle it in its 'raw' format.

WEll I tried importing that m2v file into adobe premiere and it chokes on it...
SpruceUP also chokes on it, says invalid media file :(

Heck even TMpgenc complains about it !

I'll try out DVD decryptor.

@atreides93

go to the setting from your SmartRipper,
then from the vob splitting choose the chapter based.

I did click on "chapter" for file splitting in smartripper.
but for some reason, it still pays attention to the file size in the size box. i think its a bug! so i have to put something large like 5000 in that box.

anyway i have to get a new dvd-rom drive, cuz my dvd-r drive is incredibly slow at reading disks it reads at like 1.3 x !!!
