I'm trying to create a compilation of my favorite band's live acts... i want the disc to have the same layout (track order) as the corresponding studio album BUT i want it to chose them out of a collection of different live songs... is something like that possible with scenarist?

Think about a CDA... you've got let's say 14 tracks of music in a fixed order.
What I try to create is a DVD which behaves like this CDA... having 14 "Chapters" with exactly the same songs(per name) as this CDA BUT these 14 Tracks should be chosen out of a pool of hundereds of different live tracks out of my bootleg collection.

I figure either scenarist or spruce can do it using the random function in command sequence. Never done it myself, though.

ok, if i understand you properly:
the DVD physically will have hundreds of audio on it...
when you hit 'play,' it only plays a 'select/random' 14 ?
to do that just use a counter and a GPRM and a random chapter selection, and at the end of each chapter send it to the command sequence, reply if you need more info.

Well... it seems that I'm not as smart as hoped.
How would you arrange the songs? All different versions of one song into one pgp (with chapters) or should i use seperate vts' for each group of songs? I only seem to let the DVD pick 14 randomn songs out of all, so how can i let the player distinguish between the different song "pools"?!

No need for diff song "pools". Each song in 1 PG and all into 1 PGC. Separate VTS's makes navigation programming harder.
