I encounter this strange bug in the divx vfw decoder ,ie , the decoder used when deompressing thru virtualdub .
Whenever i transcode a divx video , say from divx4 to huffyuv
, my encoder program (virtualdub) crashes after coding certain number of frames and freezes the PC. I know that there is nothing wrong with the video file as i have earlier also transcoded the same video without any error , however that was before divx5 came out .
The divx decoder can playback the file fine using zoomplayer / wmp .
Thus it is confirmed that there is nothing wrong with the playback decoder .
Now I solved the above problem by converting the fourcc of the video from divx to xvid and then using the Xvid vfw decoder to transcode .
But i am worried if Xvid decodes with same quality the divx decoder will.
Also the above method does not work for divx3 and divx5 with B-frames as xvid cant decode them .
I have in my efforts to solve the above problem Formatted my hard disk about 15 times , installed various windows versions ( XP ,98se ,ME ) as many times . But still no success .
I have the following hardware :-
AMD Athlon XP 1800+
Via Motherboard
256 Mb SDRAM
I tried the ffvfw codec but it cant open even self made files in VDub
And When will XviD decoder support B-frames .
Has somebody else also encountered the above stated problem or is it just me .
