I have just change from my old Samsung 4x to a new Hitachi-LG HL-DT-ST GDR-8160B 16x. (same computer and only a new dvd)

The problem is that smartriper (who work fine with the old DVD) now always ask for previous software DVD autentification.

Is that normal or is there any hardware problem.

Pd.: I'm in time to change the DVD to another brand, so I will appreciate any comment

Sorry to be a pain, but could you try it with my program (DVD Decrypter)?
I'm only really any good at trouble shooting (accuratly) with programs I am familiar with.

I'm confident it will be an easy issue to resolve.

When you have loaded up the program (with a disc in the drive), if it doesnt work, include the contents of the log in your next post.

Cheers.

Ah, you are experiencing the normal XP 'I dont work anymore' problem.
That one is easily solved!

XP doesnt come with any sort of ASPI layer. All the rippers need that to function FULLY, mine needs it - full stop!

I believe its mentioned in the FAQ at the top of this forum somewhere, and the log within DVD Decrypter should give you a clue!

Download and install Adaptec v4.71 ASPI (NOT 4.70!!!).
You will need to run it from the dos prompt, because you have to pass it a parameter...something like:

INSTALL.BAT XP32

I dont know why they made it so you had to do that...strange people!

Let me know how you get on. :)

Hi again,

I check my Aspi 4.7 (who was installed and ready) an changed it to 4.71 but no solution with this.

The Smartriper can't find keys without opening previously a soft decoder (PowerDvd)and the last version of your program said that aspi and chain is present but no devices.

May it be a hardware problem of the dvd-rom?

Thaks again

try copying the winaspi32.dll from nero folder into your dvddecrypter folder and hopefully your problem will go away.

Chadp1a, I'll try your solution tonight.

But the problem will still be there: what's the matter with Smartripper who works yesterday with my old dvd and not today with the new one. Is a soft or a hard problem?

I have never eared about a dvd how can not find keys with smartriper so suspect that it may be due a hardware problem.

Thanks

Hi,

One of those ASPI problems again.

Im using Windows 90 SE, with ASPI 4.71.

Im trying to use DVD Decrypter, but it gives me this message:
0 ASPI host adapter found.
No device.. blah blah..

RICOH DVD-CDR combo 6x.

Anyone had this problem before and know how to solve it?

Does putting back the ASPI drivers from win98 repair the prob?

Well 99% of the time, installing the Nero ASPI fixes the 'No Devices Detected' problem.
Its nothing really to do with my program, its just aspi not doing its job properly.

In the past, people have moved their drive from hdd controller to hdd controller and changed it from/to master/slave. This has also solved the problem

Please make sure you have the latest drivers installed for ALL of your motherboard components. Get them off the Intel / Via websites or whatever.

Dude,

It worked with CDRWIN aspi dll. Very nice. Thank you.

I have a question for you, about ripping.

As I know, there's two way of ripping. File ripping, and movie ripping (play and record). Which is the better way? I've read Doom's guide and he said to do movie ripping. But does movie ripping leave the 2 seconds layer change in the ripped vob?

The 2 second layer change is down to the hardware having to refocus the laser on the other layer. This obviously inst a problem when reading from the hdd :) The data is one continuous stream.
For encoding, IFO (Movie) mode is better, for playing from hdd, file mode (all files) is probably better - or if you're using DVD Decrypter, ISO Mode is better still :)

So there is no difference between movie ripping and file ripping? The only difference is one rip the whole thing, the other rip the right thing? Well, I know which files are for the movie, so I can use either method?

Hmm.. ok, here's what I need DVD Decryt for:

I want to take the vobs for the movie ONLY, and recode them to lower bitrates vobs (so they can be around ~3gb in total). Then what I do next is split them into 700mb files, and burn on cd (~4).

Do I have to go all the steps that doom ifoedit guide mentions? Because there's an error with tmpgtemplate.txt and TMPGEnc so I can't go any further (cant recode the vobs).

The only thing I need is just to lower the bitrates to about ~3Mb/s and keep the highest quality possible. Can that be done in 3 simple step?

1. Rip the vobs
2. Remove extra audio tracks
3. Recode
4. Split and burn?

Im not too sure on how rempeg works, but i think steps 1 and 2 can be combined? Perhaps someone else with a little more knowledge on the subject can help you?!
