View Full Version : DVD2SVCD Bug report: Internal Ripping fails - vStrip works. (?)

I'm in the process of converting Season 2 of Star Trek TNG NTSC to SVCD. It seems that both DVD 1 and DVD 4 thus far are giving "error 103" almost at the end of - rip only.
And when the riped IFO/VOB is sent to CCE 2.50, it never completes with so many CRC errors.
Yet, when I rip the exact title (episode) using vStrip, I get no errors! and CCE makes a perfect SVCD.
It's always happens on the 2nd title (of 4) on the DVD. While 2 of the other titles give a single CRC error on CCE, but complete with a perfect SVCD.
I can post the IFO file (for analysis??) here if people want, but I think maybe something with the way the chapters are laid on the disc really throws DVD2SVCD for a loop???
Anyone else noticed this problem with any other DVD's??

I might have a similar problem. I copied(as in windows explorer copy) some DVD extras(either Jay and Silent Bob strike back, or Rat Race, I can't recall) to one of my HD's. When I selected the ifo and rip to the other HD using internal routines, I got BeSweet errors. When I used vstrip on the same title, BeSweet shows no errors. I still have the files on my HD, i'll try to find out which it was and report back with exactly what the Error was.

just found a dvd where the internal routines seem to fail: Sopranos Season 1 disk 4, episode 13. I tried the whole episode and got many errors in BeSweet so I tried just 1 chapter and also got them, something like this:

the ac3 does not play correctly, but if I just use smartripper and extract the ac3 for that chapter, it comes out to exactly the same filesize and the one demuxed by DVD2SVCD, but it plays and converts without this problem. So it seems there is something wrong with the internal routines here.
Just tried the 6ch track instead of the 2ch track and got some additional errors thrown in the mix:
[00:00:07.584] W1: Found sync after 912 bytes
[00:00:07.584] E6: Illegal frame size
[00:00:07.584] E6: Illegal frame size
every now and then.
vstrip works fine within DVD2SVCD, except I cannot get rid of the opening chapter with vstrip, for the time being, i'll probably try my luck with Smartripper or something similar.

@pacohaas
I was wondering if you knew if the opening and the ending credits for the Sopranos are a chapter? I would like to be able to convert these but I am worried about the quality of fitting 1 hour on 1 cd. I would like to cut as much out as possible. DId you put 1 episode on 1 cd? How was the quality of it compared to other movies that you have done? And last but not least what encoder and settings did you use?

@pacohaas: Is this only happening in the latest build 3 ?

jason28, the answer is...sometimes. a couple of the episodes they have a thing before the opening credits. I believe the end credits is not a chapter by itself, but they're pretty short anyway. So the episodes like 13 where there is nothing before the opening song, you can just take off the first chapter, it's 1:37 if I remember correctly. One thing I've experimented with in the past is vobsplit(I think this was what it was called). So you just use it and cut off the parts that you don't want, then run DVD2SVCD. It's pre-support for frame-based cutting :)
I used mainly default settings, CCE 4, 5, or 6 pass, depending on what time I expected to come back home, 1 CD, seems OK quality, better than the DVD actually since my APEX player seems to have some problems playing the DVD and strange dark boxes appear randomly throughout the first episode. I watched the converted SVCD and it didn't have that problem and looked fine to me.
dvd2svcd: with my previous post, that was of course whatever version was out at that time. I just hadn't been able to locate the file on jay and silent bob or rat race. When I got the same error just now with ep13 of sopranos, I searched for this thread. The past error was solved by using vstrip again. This time I didn't do the windows copy thing, just used dvd2svcd from the dvd.
