View Full Version : All in one direct show filter?

I've been wondering if there's any chance that there's going to be a direct show filter that would handle all OGG/OGM related materials?
I was wondering this because I have to install OGG's SubTitDS.exe to play OGGs with subs; however, it can't co-exist (at least not in a working fashion) with VobSub 2.14. In addition, I've noticed a problem, when I have Morgan Stream Switcher, OggDS.exe, and SubTitDS.exe installed and try to play an OGM file (DivX 3.11, OGG (2ch), AC3 (6ch), subs, and chapterlist) WMP consumes 100% of my CPU. If I de-install Morgan Stream Switcher, the file plays, but I can't switch audios and both are selected. I have seen posts with other people having the same problems and I would just like to know if there's any current filter or a development of a filter that could handle all subs (muxed in an OGM file or a stand alone), as well as multiple audio in varying/non-varying formats.

Which WMP are you using. OGm supports audio stream switching, but only for 6.4 yet. In WMP 7 & 8 M$ change the integration of DXfilters, that's why it doesn't work with WMP 7 & 8.
So, just use WMp 6.4 and throw Morgan Stream Switcher away, not needed when you have ogm as source.
For combination with vobsub there is no solution (yet), ut why do you want to use vobsub? Subtitles are bigger, in an extra file, and have to split it additionally to the movie. Using SRT subs splitting of the subs is done when splitting the movie with OGGMUX, go for it.

I use WMP 6.4. I have ditched Morgan because it caused crashes (not crashes but 100% CPU utilization so if I opened anything else it'd crash basically).
I don't use VobSub subs currently, but rips I did previously have VobSub subs. Plus not all my movies are in the OGM file container. Most are still AVIs and with only SubTitDS.exe installed the .srt subs won't play for my AVI.

for good old avis, it's still best to use microDVD player for displaying subs (supports also several audio-streams, looks like an old PowerDVD), just use the quick-ini option.

P.S. Otherwise, if your movies are not burned yet, you could convert them from avi to ogm, including srt.

Using VobSub is much easier in my opinion. When using testfile subs you have lots of mistakes and it takes a lot of time to ocr them and correct them.
I have used Subrib subtitles with MicroDVD for a very long time (70 movies or so), but I find Zoom Player with VobSub so much faster and better and now I finally have a life again. I never would want to go back. And using the Overlay in MicroDVD is still a mysterium.
And 3-5 mb on a 700mb CD is too much?
Plus using the green arrow in Vobsub lets you easily change the audio language of your ogms.
just my 2 cents

@Beave : Did you give a try to BSplayer : it can handle almost every kind of subtitles, allows fast language / chapter shifting. It doesn't need OggSubDS or VobSub ( except for bitmap subs ), and it will play all your movies with only ffdshow ( + ac3 codec if the movie use ac3 audio streams ) installed.

Next version of DirectVobSub work fine with OGM, you favorite flavour will be fully compatible :)
I still consider myself much too newbie when subs and ogm are concerned, but i saw at doom9's news that the new Zoom Player now has ogm and vobsub support built-in.
Probably worth a look.

@Manao: Well it's the same in Zoomplayer. But I want those Bitmaps for sure and I don't have any trouble installing them. I have even made an all in one installer pack for my friends, where zoom player and all filters are installed and configured.
Zoom Player lets me resize the window for TV-Out overscan very easily and all things can be configured over key-commands (like opening the divx or vobsub properties).

Also new BSPlayer supports .ogg subtitles without need to install SubTitDS
