View Full Version : AC3 to 6-WAVES dumb question

I have extracted the .AC3 using dvd2avi. I am now using BeSweet and the BeSweet GUI to get the 6 WAV files (I need to resample in cooledit to make them 4% longer for my PAL to NTSC Film conversion). Can I input the delay in the BeSweet GUI or do I want to do it some time after I have stretched each WAV w/ cooledit? (maybe while authoring or re-encoding to AC3?).

Another question. I know that I can either 1) resample the audio so that it will stretch audio to be slightly longer, but it will lower the pitch, or I can 2) do a stretch and not change the pitch. If the PAL DVD had the audio sped up then I obviously want to do option 1 so that my audio is back at the pitch it should be. But how do I know which method they used to get their audio for the 25fps video? Did they resample and raise the pitch or stretch and keep the pitch constant? Thanks.

1. sounds like the best way, in this case, is asserting the delay while muxing.
2. i'm afraid i don't understand the meaning if your question, when it relates to video.

If the framerate of my video is changed from 25fps to 23.976fps and the audio is unchanged, the audio will not sync up with the video because the video is around 4% longer than it once was. So the video has to also be stretched. You can either stretch it in such a way to keep the pitch exactly the same as it was on the PAL DVD or stretch it and make the pitch lower. Each way makes the audio file around 4% longer, but one keeps the PAL DVD pitch and the other does not. I have read that most PAL DVDs have the videos recorded at 24fps, then everything is sped up to make it 25fps. This makes the audio pitch on the PAL DVD slightly high. IF this is true, dropping the pitch back down will make the audio as it should be, however, if they sped it up by resampling (which keeps the pitch the same) then I should slow it down by the same method. Does this make sense?
