I am proud to annouce that our attempts to get more input about how to make codec recognition from the MCF header on other OS than Windows seems to have resulted in a very interesting cooperation.
mplayer is for sure the most advanced player for Linux platform, and i was told there is even a first alpha version for MacOS running now. I simply sent a mail to mplayer dev mailinglist asking if they could give us some input on codec recognition on Linux ( FourCC, GUID or plugins ) and the answer was exceeding all my expectations.
Not only did we get some clear advice on how things should be handled, we also received some very detailled input on the file format itself.
As a result a new mailing list was created, allowing mplayer and mcf developers to discuss in detail how the best A/V file format should be looking. It may well be possible that some parts of the MCF specs have to be redone, but it is for sure much too early to make any predictions here.
If you want to subscribe to the mailing list goto http://mplayerhq.hu/mailman/listinfo/mcf-mplayer-coop , if you want to browse what was said go here http://mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/mcf-mplayer-coop/2002-June/thread.html . The first mails are still lying on normal mplayer-dev list http://mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/mplayer-dev-eng/2002-June/thread.html#8471 , more specifically here : http://mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/mplayer-dev-eng/2002-June/008471.html .
The MCF equivalent of this mailing list will be deleted soon, dont subscribe there.
