Lets consider YUV12, YUV9 and YUV2:
Are these just alternative names to 4:22, 4:1:1 etc or the 12, 9 and 2 have nothing to do with subsampling? If they are related witch one is what?
If the 12, 9 and 2 are not related to subsampling, what is the difference between them and where did these numbers came from?
I understand 4:22 and 4:11 is how much of the original chroma samples were used in the "compressed" YUV file so that's not my question.

Thanks

Try the FourCC Definition List (http://www.webartz.com/fourcc/fccyuv.htm).

Thanks for the URL, I learned some useful stuff.
Mybe I'm missing something because my english is not very good but couldn't find the YUV formats I mentioned above in there, can anyone tell me what is the subsampling for each one of them (yuv12, 9 and 2)?
Maybe I am confusing or miss spelling YUY2 as YUV2?

I figured you had just mispelled YUY2, YV12, and YVU9. But of course there is no way I could know for sure.

Yes, that was it, the color space I was looking up to use in my compressed videos is YUY2
