View Full Version : OGG vorbis input in Besweet?

Hi everybody!
I'd like to ask to DSPguru if it would be possible to have ogg input in besweet, or this is a stupid feature?. (I haven't found nothing about it in the forum)
I've downloaded a movie with a ogg vorbis audio of 244 kbps that doesn't fit in a 700 MB cd and I've found is tricky to reencode it now. If Besweet has mp3 input now, why no having ogg input? I think Besweet is a perfect and useful conversion utility and I think a such easy to use program could try to make it.
Thanks in advance

will think about it.. :).

I'd love to have that possiblilty as well.
I just bought an mp3 player, but some of my music is in ogg format, so I cannot play them. Decoding them to wav and then using besweet is a step more than neccessary.

This should work quite a long time now, just try.

With Besweet you can do direct OGG->MP3 transcoding. No need of WAVs.

Can you please tell me how? I tried finding it by using the GUI (the one from dspguru.doom0.org), but it seems that it will not take ogg as input.
I'm willing to try a commandline, if you can help me with and example.
I'm aiming for MP3 VBR at around 128K.
Ideally I would run it by bath on all the files in a directory and output to the same dir.

Did you get the latest besweet's GUI (beta 82) and the latest Besweet dll/exe (1.50b20)?
In order to select OGG as input it is sufficient to go in the input options and then select OGG as extension.

Yes, I tried both the stable and the latest betas you mentioned.
I found out howe to set it up in the gui, but when I try to run it, it goes _too_ fast. It zaps through and just shows me the log in a popup notepad window. Conversion time is less than a second, there is no output file and no error is reported.
Weird! Probably something wrong with my machine or with my ogg files.
I think I'll try to let besweet convert an mp3 to ogg and then back to see if I just have some buggy ogg files (they play well enough, but was maybe encoded with an older version of ogg...?)

Please try the following:
- get BeSweet 1.4 stable and extract it to some directory.
- next get BeSweet 1.5b21 (latest of this writing) and extract it to the same directory overwriting the older files.
- get OggDS filters from tobias.everwicked.com (http://tobias.everwicked.com) and install them, too.
Now try the following command line:
path to besweet folder\besweet.exe -core( -input file.ogg -output file.mp3 -logfile BeSweet.log ) -lame( --alt-preset 128 )
This should transcode your file.ogg to file.mp3 with an average bitrate of 128 kBit/s. Please post your results.

EDIT: Surely you don't have libvorbis.dll, which is required to be present in Besweet directory.
Get it at http://rarewares.hydrogenaudio.org/ogg.html
And then your GUI + besweet will magicly work!! :D
Here's a log of an OGG->MP3 conversion:
Logging start : 09/10/03 , 11:46:03.
E:\dvd\azid\BeSweet.exe -core( -input e:\01 - Il mio nome č mai pių.ogg -output e:\01 - Il mio nome č mai pių.mp3 -logfilea E:\dvd\azid\BeSweet.log ) -lame( --alt-preset standard ) -profile( ~~~~~ Default Profile ~~~~~ )

You don't need to download besweet 1.4, just download 1.5b21.
And then don't use a custom command-line, just use Besweet's GUI which is perfect!

@Fr4nz:
1) Please read the BeSweet FAQ sticky. Beta versions are upgrades to stable versions so you should unpack the stable version before.
2) Either use libVorbis.dll from RareWares or OggDS by Tobias Waldvogel. BeSweet works with both, but for playback of OGM you need OggDS anyway. If you don't need it, fine with me, but on RareWares you find at least 3 three different libVorbis versions at the moment. Do you advise not so experienced users which one to download?
3) I didn't post the command line to prevent anyone from using BeSweetGUI but it is more save in my eyes to first make sure the central process works. If you don't think so, O.K.
4) I never use the BeSweetGUI and I wish that you respect this.

Hey guy you should really calm down, maybe you need a camomile, cause my tone wasn't aggressive at all. I was just telling to Iznobad what is better for him.
Anyway:
1) Wrong. Besweet versions are independent and don't require a preinstalled stable version. Try this yourself!
2) Never tried with OggDS, anyway both libvorbis are equal for decoding, so what's the matter?
3) Again: calm down. I suggested to use the GUI 'cause it's easier and better to use while using command-lines, most of the times, is difficult and worst.
4) Lol I've never said you're a fucking moron or something of similar, where's the problem man?

I did _Exactly_ as you said. When I ran the commandline you suggested, the program finished in less than a second and the was _no_ output :(

Yes! Bingo, I didn't know that I had to download that dll (thought all was include in besweet package). I had previously installed the OggDS and since i could play ogg files fine in winamp and media player I thought everything was ok.
Thank you all for your help!!!
Hmm, perhaps this could have been avoided...
I have an idea for besweet: How about giving an error message if the libvorbis is not found?

@Fr4nz:
No need to use swear words. I just wanted to stress my point of view. I didn't know that my words were offending to you. If so, my apologies.
Anyway, I think things are cleared up now...
Thanks,
