I recently lost my database containing my movies. Now, that I have to make a new one, I would like to know if you can tell me a good software for this job...
Have a look at my last list here (http://razorblade2k.de.vu)
The new programm should also have html export and cover/plot/actors... import form idmb or sth else
(Last time I used DivXManager 0.8)

NBS divx Catalogue. Switching over from a Quattro spreadsheet (and yeah, I'm a Wordperfect Office user. Want to make something of it? hehe).

Well, I'm just converting by re-entering all my movies, nothing automated. Which is sad and is going to take a while, but that's just the way it is.

I have mine in microsoft word. I just do "movietitle - how many cds". I want to start using an actual database program...but all my movies are on cd, and i have over 250...and i cant be bothered to go through every cd, put it in the drive to find out how big, what codec etc etc. So I just slowly add names to the .doc.

you can open the file in DOS mode and do a dir command.
This should list all your files, then just copy-paste into word.
(Assuming you have Win2000 or XP that can copy from DOS)

I'm using Movie Collector. I like Divx Manager but it has lots of bugs and crashes a lot. But this is only for my movies, for everything else (audio, tv shows, etc.) I use a simple Access db.

i believe auenf was on the money with the dir command (good old dos - microsoft's crowning achievement)
then again, for this to be of any benefit, it requires all your movies to be in the same drive (u can get around the directory problem) - not much good if your movies are on cd

Well, I'm using NBS Catalogue, too (it maybe has something to do with the fact, that I'm the author of this little tool). Give it a try. I'm workin' hard on it and it's getting better day by day.
I've calogized 300 movies in just 3 hours with it.

i wrote an html page. it is ok but it takes some time to add several movies. i like my movies sorted by genres because if you like to see a good action movie you can choose much more easily.
you can check the list on my hp: www.apfelstruhdl.de.vu in the download section.

Wuff's MovieDB is a good one ()sourceforge.net/projects/wuffs-moviedb (http://sourceforge.net/projects/wuffs-moviedb) if you have access to an Apache webserver running php and MySQL. It pulls from IMDb too.

Most, if not all, IMDB parsing DB programs currently are broken because of an IMDB format change.

I used moviedb too(actualy is at 1.3.5.3 ver),but yes it crashes now due to changes of imdb.I jumbed to divx manager which has now has a script to download from the new imdb, without problems.Luckily for me I had my movies in a txt also and I was able to import them in divx manager without any problems at all.

2 Votes for DVD Profiler -- it rules!
It is a very rich movie catalog manager that captures a lot of information about movies including cover front and back images. The easiest way to grab the movie data is to type the UPC but you can use title or disc ID. There is even a bar code scanner plugin so to make it super fast, easy and accurate to get your movie's data.
Intro from the program:
DVD Profiler lets you keep track of your DVD collection, DVDs you've ordered, and DVDs you want (your wish list). Adding DVDs to your collection is fast and easy - in most cases all you'll need is the UPC off the back and DVD Profiler will do the rest, downloading a detailed profile from the online database, as well as cover images for the DVD, where available.
DVD Profiler's database is entirely user-built; as new DVDs are released, users like you contribute the new profiles and cover images.
The Getting Started section is a great place to begin checking out all the unique features of DVD Profiler.
It's not free but a great value buy.
The data can also be exported in XML format and used to populate DVD Lobby Pro, a nice application that displays your movie collection and a launches movies.
