Hi guys and girls,

I'm currently working on a paper for school discussing the future of streaming video. Somebody pointed me to this website because this is said to be the centre of audio/video encoding. Looking through the many threads convinced me about that opinion.

I'm currenly trying to discover what people, who are 'in the scene' think the future of streaming video will be like. What codecs will rise along with streaming video and especially: what can DivX mean for streaming video in the future. Do you support DivX as a streaming codec when it will be released (will it, or is it?). Do you think that people will more often watch television on their computer instead of watching television on their tv-set, and do you think internet-tv-stations will show up in the future? If so, do you think you prefer such a station above the currect tv-stations? What are your arguments for that opinion?

If some would like to give me a (brief) opinion about this subject or about my questions i would very appreciate it. If someone is interested i maybe publish my results online for you to read and maybe find back your opinion.

Many thanx in advance for those who respond!

Well, I don't think this is the right place to ask about streaming video as this site cares about encoding, encoding techniques etc...

So the average user here takes his DVD, rips it and encodes it. Not much about streaming here - or do you consider a data stream from CD to memory as a "streaming video"? ;)

I for one don't watch such streams at all - stamp-sized, low fps, low quality is all you get even at "moderate" data rates (e.g. 300kbps _can_ look way better than what those real video files show).

Just my oppinion,
Koepi

The best streaming site I've found so far is www.feedroom.com.

Seems to be windows media (not sure which codec) and at about 300 kbps.

Don't know of any other services that are more than 300 kbps. I would like a 450 kbps one as my conenction is 500 so should cope with that fine.

I never watch 'streaming video' (like live stuff from the web, since the quality is crap, and im limited to a certain number of megs). I do watch TV on my computer (not through a tv tuner though...well not anymore..since it broke), but i watch tv rips. I also watch normal tv as well, but not as much as on computer.
