It has been interesting to see the valiant efforts of the XCD team to give us all another 10-15 % CD capacity to play with.
Are 2 GB CDs just around the corner?

I guess we'll have to wait and see...

honestly, I don't see 2GB CDs that rely on a new technology catching on. If I am going to have to shell out the money for a new burner, I'm going with the DVD+RW drive, not an ML-CD-R. Especially with the way DVD+RW drives have been dropping in cost. Besides, all the major computer makers are lined up behind DVD-RW or DVD+RW, and I don't think they are going to switch over, which means no mass market acceptance of the format, which defeats the purpose of it, except as an archive format. I can take a CD or a DVD to a friend's house, and if they have a computer, they can most likely read it. ML-CD will not be anywhere as convenient. Just my 2 cents.

I think all discussions about which DVD recording system will be superior to the others is useless.
I don't like M$, ut if they do one good thing it's to make standards.
And, OOPS, they did it again: M$ Longhorn (to be released 2004) will support DVD+RW with it's inbuilt burning-tool.
Well, this tool will surely be crap, like the one in XP, but, who knows, perhaps this tool (integrated in system) will make "mysterious" troubles with other DVD-systems even by using another burning software.
SO, Just sit back, wait for cheap DVD+RW and a Longhorn Corporate Edition:devil:

How about Sanyo's new technology that doubles the amount of data that can be written on regular CDRs and CDRWs? Supposedly, CDROM drives will be able to read it with only a firmwire update.
It would be nice to be able to store 1.3GB to 1.4GB (650MB and 700MB discs respectively), perfect for my 2CD rips (of course, using OGM).
Hell...I really want to see those 100GB discs but even a doubler for current stuff will do for now. (I wonder if the same technology can be applied to DVD-Rs and stuff...)

Well, I read the news about the sanyo system on the given link, but I don't believe it will work on your normal CD-drive, it must be a drive with that chip, I guess.

still....if it uses normal media, it's a step forward.
And time will tell if it's just a firmware update or a complete hardware upgrade.
