Does anybody know why the video file is choppy when you Remux a CCE encoded video stream with Ifoedit?

At this time, you can NOT use the remux feature of IFOEDIT with a CCE encoded stream. You must re-author with Scenarist or DVDMaestro. I suppose Spruce-up or DVDit would also work if you dont mind having just one audio stream.

I know that it doesn't work, I just wanted a better understanding of why.

I belive the underlying reason why is that IFOEDIT does not perform a true remux operation. It just substitutes the two video streams.

So the the new cce movie file must be different in structure to the original one in some way.

Apparantley. The only thing I've seen work with the IFOEDIT remux is a rempeg stream, but even that isn't 100% ;)

Yeah, I've tried REMPEG but get a crap quality stream, so not worth using.

Agreed. I did one movie with rempeg - quality too crappy, time too long. CCE is the best out there in my opinion. Where it would take rempeg 24 hrs or more for the highest quality settings, CCE will do it in about 7-9 hrs with great quality plus you have total control over encoding a particular scene by using the Robshot method. It rocks.

I am currently using CCE 2.50. I have a demo of the newer version which has an additional matrices option or something. Can this be used to correct the problem of remuxing to video stream?

Ahhhh...I'm not sure about the whole matrices thing, but I do recall reading somewhere that certain programs like BBmux need to have them modified. I cannot confirm this as I have always used Maestro or Scenarist and haven't needed to bother with them.

dezza9995,

The matrices won't help. The original was encoded with someone choosing where scenes start and stop. That makes for sets of GOPs that don't necessarily alway have the same number of frames. When CCE reencodes it doesn't see the original stream's structure (like REMPEG2 does) -- it just reencodes as it sees fit (or is instructed). That's why they aren't the same.

You can use the CCE/IFOEdit method to create a near perfect copy of a DVD with all menu items. I have yet to find one that couldn't be done with Scenarist, Maestro, or ReelDVD. If you are satisfied with one audio stream you could also use SpruceUp.

Once you do a couple movies this way you will agree:

ReMPEG2 sucks bigtime.
