View Full Version : Trouble with rose red
I tried to rip rose red the haunted house movie 2 dvd set, and ran into some trouble, first i ripped it using internal routenes, and the first dvd which is 3 hours long came out in to cd's, not the entire first dvd, i noticed that it skipped the fisrt 3 vob files of 8. SO i tried using the setting vstrip to rip it, i ripped all 8 vob files it created 3 mpeg files so i was happy, but when i played the first mpeg file to the movie, it wasnt the beginning of the movie like on the dvd, and the last created mpeg file didnt have the same ending as on the dvd, Something is messed up , anyone else try to rip this movie?
thanks

Same exact situation. I described it more detail in the following thread: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27182
Hopefully we can put our heads together and find a solution. I Post my findings/results here as I go along. Would appreciate other peoples attempts and ideas.

I noticed something was wrong when I previewed w/ dvd2avi. For some reason the start of the movie is burried on the first part of vob 4??. I used vobsplit to split it off to a new vob. Vobsplit is a pain, you're working blind and can only get so close, but I see/hear no flaw in the mpg and I know where to look.
One thing that made it easier was to divide/rename the vobs into the mini series 3 parts. I was able to use dvd2avi to block out stuff from other parts and save the hassle of creating more vob's w/ vobsplit. I don't remember what the deal with the end of the movie was, it may have just been an out of order vob. I used dvd2avi's preview function a lot.
Now if I can only figure out what's going on w/ the audio on Kate & Leopold :-(

I was wondering what problems with audio you were having, I tried backing it up and I keep getting a sync problem towards the last half of the flick.. If you've figured it out please let me know, Thanks. Maybe I will try the 2 channel ac3 if it has one..

Yup, sync problems. Its gotta have to do with how one set of vobs contains the theater and directors cut versions. I tried all sorts of things (different rippers, both versions, etc.) and ended up transcoding each vob separately. I still had sync problems when I tried to join the resulting mpg's. I ended up using VCDeasy, 7 mpg's > 3 cue/bin's, and then VCDgear (join tracks) to get 3 mpg's. Sync is fine except for one small scene (last one from vob4?, theater version). Most frustrating.

Most fustrating, I ripped it with Smartripper, stream processing, just the movie and 6-channel audio to 1 large VOB. The resulting vob plays perfectly in windvd, only goes out of sync once it's encoded and re-muxed. Which is strange I think.. Anyway, thanks for your response. Maybe I'll give it a shot again if I get some time.
