Just wanted to share some info. Burned my 8th Verbatim disc today and it works great! Though the disc does not claim to be compatible at any particular speed, they've all burned fine at 2X. I tend to trust Verbatim in general as I've used them for years for CDR burning. Even when I was using a Verbatim CDR rated for only 8X, I was able to burn as high as 16X flawlessly so I believe they probably have very good quality control in their manufacturing process.
I just got finished burning to a Memorex DVD-R. It's the first time I used one and the burn went just fine. However, my DVR-104 would not burn to this disc as anything other than 1X. Considering the local MicroCenter sells the Memorex for $5.99 and the Verbatim for $6.99, I don't believe it's worth a $1 in cost savings to have to burn at 1X. I just wanted to share this info with anyone who was interested in Verbatim and Memorex DVD-R media. Happy burning! :)
PS... On a side note, just in case anyone is interested, I was able to fit "Vanilla Sky" and "Magnolia" both on one DVD-R with no loss of quality using CCE. The first VBR pass was enough for good quality and no gray areas for both movies. The picture quality looks great.
