This may seem like a simple question to you gentleman, but I have been struggling with this problem for weeks and could certainly use a hand. I have a number of Imax movies which are DVDRips in .avi format. I have an Apex VCD player which plays most formats I have burned, but the .avi's are a no-go. I have tried using just about every program I could lay my hands on to convert the .avi to SVCD but with no success. Is there any way to do this without studying for a doctorate in cinematography? I heard that Nero is supposed to have a plug-in that will do this, but the plug-in I found doesn't work. I would appreciate any help offered to me. My ICQ# is 761965 and my e-mail address is mutha@rogers.com. Thanx to all

don't use the nero plugin...it's crap.
I would use TMPGenc--it's free, and pretty easy to use. Just follow the guides at doom9.org, or at vcdhelp.com
either one is well done, and easy to follow.

I tried using TMPenc and it worked fine, but the movie I created had no sound. Then I tried using Virtualdub and a lot of similar programs to rip the audio from the Avi file. Audio ripped into a large, unplayable Wav file which sounded like it was playing at about one-tenth of the speed it should be playing at, really drag-ass!. I tried using DVD2SVCD with Cinemacraft encoder and it freezes up at various stages, never completing even half of the conversion, and that's where I'm currently at, sitting weeping on the floor amongst the tufts of hair I've yanked from my scalp!

try dvd2svcd with tmpg (not as picky as cce)
