When i install Gknot .26 and then run Virtual Dub 1.4.10 for the first time I get a lengthy warning that Illegal Binary Hacks of these 3 codecs (abbreviated) have been detected.
divx high/low motion
Divx audio
Radium mp3
the author says that these can case serious problems and not to forward him crash dumps when using these drivers.
So as i am experiencing Virtual Dub crashes this is a warning to me why perhaps this is happening.
I assume that the gKnot that i downloaded from this site is perfect in its entirety included the doctored codecs. If so in fact, then does this mean that this is not possibly the cause of these crashes?
is it possible that original codecs are available that may work better?

I think the "original codecs" ARE binary hacks of other codecs. For example, DivX is a hack off of Microsoft's MPEG4v3. I think DivX audio is a hack off of Microsoft's WMA (a very old version). I'm not sure about Radium MP3.
I doubt these codecs are the cause of your crashes.

If these "hacks" were harmful to your system, hundreds of users on this site wouldn't be using them.
Most of the time, when your system crashes, its caused by something else being wrong already with your system and not by these codecs and drivers. Some of these require a very stable system to start with (such as cce) in order to work correctly.
If you are experiencing crashes, uninstall the program, clean the registry and reinstall them and try again.

the radium mp3 codec is a hack of the fraunhofer codec.

I don't see why your getting crashes with Radium or the low/high divx3.11alpha, they have been working great forever for me. But I've never used the divx audio before, maybe thats your problem. Could be a hardware issue... You didnt tell us what exactly you where doing in detail within the program or making it do. Try using GordonKnot23 to compare...

i also dont think that these are the cause of the crashes - just thought that it maybe a possibility.
in any case it was confusing to me because the Author of Virtual Dub warns against using these codecs, and there are no notes in Gknot saying to ignore this warning.

in fact its only a warning - the author of vdub cannot care about problems that are MAYBE caused by hacked codecs.
and as almost every person in this forum had installed and sometime used this codecs i think there are no problems. ;)

and what difference should gknot 0.23 make? its only a calculator and script writer. (where of course only doesnt mean only as it usually means)

i certainly would have to agree with that point.
i have however found the root of the problem. I uninstalled DivX 5.02 Pro and installed the Basic version and now No More Virtual Dub crashes
whatever the cause is, i dont care anymore :-) as i can now make a movie, that is all that matters for now.
thanks
