Well, there's another program called Tinra, a command line tool along with an external GUI. I tried it some time ago, but the result as asynch as hell. Dunno why. Maybe EO video will do a better job, I'll try it at home. Thanx for the tip.

Probably bad luck. I've used Tinra several times without asynch problems.

Ill splain the problem with tinra. 1) it makes uncmpressed AVI which is massive. but the kicker:
tinra cant handle VBR rm files, and most rm files are VBR.

Record it from another computer playing it, using a editor you can usually fix it(normalize, fade, amplify one channel, take out pops). Well you didnt exactly say what was wrong with it.
EO Video is a pretty sweet RealVideo convertor. The 30 day trial does appear to work very well (easily can convert to DivX)

Yeah, I recently realised I was thinking of another tool, I'm not sure I've ever even used Tinra.

I have used both programs...tinra was really bad for me. and EO video didnt really work that well (i didnt really try that hard with it...but it gave me the shits). The way I encode rm to avi is through just recording it off the screen using snagit (its a really bad way of doing it, but it works all the time...).
EDIT
well i thought I would give EO video another chance. And it worked well. I now can do everything in batch :) (instead of watching everything i am encoding). The quality seems pretty good. I didnt encode enough to see if the sound goes out of synch or not...hopefully it doesnt :)
