View Full Version : (Newbie) How to cut by chapter

I am new to this program, I used to make my VCDs using the DVD2AVI>VFAPI>TMPEGenc routine.. Now I am trying to simplify things using a program like DVD2SVCD, but I am running into a dumb problem.

Even if I have read the stickys, and the Q&A, I don't understand how does it split the movie in 2 CDs. It looks like all it does is split it by Mbs, but that will cut the movie at a random point (in the middle of a sentence i.e.). It seems like you can select just about half the chapters and encode 2 separate projects, but I wonder if this is the best way to do it?

yes two separate projects...just batch encode them

by batch encode, do you mean select the chapters and encode both times manually, or is there a way to set DVD2SVCD to batch encode 2 sessions automatically? that would be nice.

Hi 4th alphabet,

yes, a real batch encode should also be possible, just activate the internal ripping routines and then load the IFO, selct only the chapters you want, hit "GO" and choose "Rip only". Do this with the other part of the chapters again. Then you can edit and run the batch process from within the DVD2SVCD menu entries from the windows start menu.

Hope this helps,
Gerti

ok, lemme see if i got this right cos something went wrong when the batch file tried to encode the 2nd disc.

1. after i've selected the chapters i want for the 1st disc and got all my other settings right, i choose "Rip Only" and rip into a directory, say /Disc1.

2. then same thing for the 2nd disc, select chapters and choose "Rip Only" into a seperate directory from the first, /Disc2.

3. then i edit the batch file and remove the two default lines. my batch file then looks like this.

@ECHO OFF
@REM DVD2SVCD Batch Control
"C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\DVD2SVCD.exe" -d2s:"C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\Movie\Disc1\dvd2svcd project file.d2s" -run -exit
"C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\DVD2SVCD.exe" -d2s:"C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\Movie\Disc2\dvd2svcd project file.d2s" -run -exit

4. after all that, i run the batch file.

The 1st disc was done successfully, but when it came time to do the 2nd disc, it flashed a message at the CCE step. can't remember the exact message now but it was something like "can't encode at 720 X 276". not sure of the exact numbers. anyone know what i'm doing wrong?

Hi again,

hmm, I found out that it is alwys better to completely close DVD2SVCD and re-start it for the next rip so the chances of something not getting messed up are better IMHO.

So, I would try it again, and make sure to close DVD2SVCD after each rip. You can post the log from the faulty second conversion perhaps.

Hope this helps,
Gerti

yes I agree with gerti67...close dvd2svcd after each 'rip only'. I put that in specific tip in the advanced reference too.
