View Full Version : multiple video streams in OGM ??

Forgive me, but search function on this board gave me no results on this subject, so I dare asking here.
Maybe it has never been designed for that, but I felt like remembering that it was possible to have multiple streams of VIDEO in OGM. So I tried with GraphEdit because OggMux didn't provide an appropiate option. (2 VidStreams-XVid + 2 AudioStreams-Ogg)
GE finished without crashing, but then I tried to play the OGM file in several players. If it plays it only plays for 6 secs until it comes to an early end - no crash.
Pictures seen during this short period belong to the first video stream.
I searched Xiph.org and vorbis.com as well, but didn't find any information about Ogg-container or OGM (which they dislike) specs.
Can someone put a comment on this?
If you ask "Why 2 VidStreams ?": Music video ! One is the original the other is kind of making-of or alternative takes with the exact same length !
thx, bluedan
Streams where indicated correctly in WM6.4
Video 0
Video 1
Audio 2
Audio 3
media length 6 secs, which is wrong of course, should be 47 min.
I can easily switch between streams without a hassle.

My first testfile was in fact an ogg stream which contained 2 totaly different music video clips i captured from tv.
You can do that without problems (worked for me at least) but since I can't see any sense in it I didn't add a "movie file list".

But why does it not work on my system.
It's obvious that the DSF allows to do so, but playback corrupt.
Don't tell me that it's W98SE related again, else send me an email with your XP-copy,please...:sly:

Erm...sorry to tell you that it's a win98 problem.
Try again with the 0.9.8.6 filters, they should work with win98 as well.

I was having the same problem with subs and Ogg Media, but I just discovered that you can use Vosub subs (not muxed in). However when I started playing the Ogg Media file it did not display subs neither the DirectVobsub tray icon.
So here's what I did, uninstalled the SubTitDs, and the DirectVobsub subtiltes started working.
In my opinion Vobsub is the best kind of subs around as they are removable and it does not use annoying OCR, therefore there's no need to correct them.

Koepi, as you have stated so often, besides that w98 "sucks", it's worth upgrading to XP, is it possible to just upgrade from within my W98SE installation in its current state without having to reinstall all previously installed programmes ? Would you recommend that ?

Maybe I jump in here, please forgive :)
From my experience with all sorts of Windows flavors I'd say: it depends. No really...
Windows XP uses usually very much different drivers, that means that all programs that work close to hardware like CD burning apps, virus scanners, partitioning tools etc. need different drivers to access the hardware. Of course most of the hardware drivers need to be changed as well.
While it is of course possible to do an upgrade from Win98(SE) to Windows XP I would not recommend it. You may try but not without a backup of your Win98 system partition. Also be aware that Windows XP may try to convert the drive where you are installing to NTFS. It is pretty nasty afterwards to get back to FAT32 if you don't own something like Partition Magic or a similar tool. In any case you should be pretty familiar with your machine.
My recommendation is to install Windows XP parallel to Windows 98 which is possible without a problem if you have a second partition or hard disk. Get the drivers you need for your hardware and test all your favourite programs. In any case you get a more stable and reliable system with a clean and fresh install.

Just to clarify:
'Upgrading' Win98 to XP is a 100% reliable way to get an unstable system.
(I wouldn´t blame M$ for that ... very complicate task!)
In any case, do a clean install on a NTFS partition. Trust my experiences in this topic ;)

@Didee:
Wasn't I clear enough with that?

NTFS and FAT32 may be coexistent on my HD, if I create a second partition on it ? These are different systems how to organize data on HD, right ? I wonder if hardware controler can handle it both ??
Everything else cleared up, thx for replying
bye, bluedan
EDIT: Mod, this only sems to be off-topic, but questions here derive from the need to change systems...
in this way related...thx

Yes they may coexist.
